35 points at half.
24 points in a row.
47 points 8 rebounds 8 assists for the game.
This is LeBron James.

Steve Nash is having a great year. Kobe Bryant is having a great year.
But is anyone playing better right now than LeBron James?

Granted, it is the New York Knicks playing the defensive side of the ball in this game and granted again the game is on Cleveland’s home court where the Cavaliers are 21 – 3, but still…35 points at half by one player?

LeBron James’ 35 points in the first half Saturday night against the New York Knicks broke the team record of 34 set by Walt Wesley on Feb. 19, 1971 against Cincinnati.
source

What is really impressive about breaking Walt Wesley’s record is that if you go back to 1971 and watch an NBA game it was not uncommon to see scores in the 120’s and not a whole lot of defense.

Not just so you don’t find me to be a New York Knick hater, the Knicks to their credit battled back from a 24 point deficit to cut the score to 3, before, guess who, LeBron James made a couple of free throws and a 3 pointer to put it away for good.

It was Nate Robinson for the Knicks and LeBron James for the Cavaliers.

The co-stars: Nate Robinson had 26 points for New York and keyed the Knicks’ comeback

Highlight: James hit eight straight shots and finished with a team-record 35 points in the first half.
source

NBA Obsessed takes you into the hit and run game of NBA Basketball.

Nate Robinson has found the pine to not be to his liking and Coach D’Antoni does not seem to care. That is just too much of the word “not” to be to the liking of either. Ok, it is time to go back to English class for NBAObsessed.

A source from Nate Robinson’s camp and you have to have a camp if you are an NBA player, has spoken to ESPN and stated that Nate would like to leave the New York Knicks and take his talents to the Boston Celtics.

The Knicks for their part are denying the whole story, but ESPN claims it is true. Nate even said he would take a buyout of his contract and then try to sell his services to one of the top teams. Those teams would be the Los Angeles Lakers, the Orlando Magic, and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

There are numerous reasons why the Knicks may not be able to trade Nate to the Celtics even if they wanted to do that.

Robinson has the right to veto any trade (because he would be forfeiting his Larry Bird rights by accepting a trade), and as unhappy as he is, at the end of the day he’d rather sulk at the end of the bench in New York than battle Wayne Ellington for spot minutes in Minnesota. One source close to the Knicks said the list of teams that Robinson would accept a trade to could be described as “slim and/or none.”
source

If anything, New York is trying to keep their payroll well below the cap to be able to go after LeBron, Wade, Bosh in next year’s free agent market.

Of course, most of us remember Nate for winning an All Star NBA dunk contest.

The New York Knicks seem to get into all kinds of bizarre situations even in an exhibition game. This time the New York Knicks were involved in drawing out the worst in the replacement referees. If there is a worst at this point. David Stern has to do something about these guys. These guys being the replacement referees. There is something to be said for experience.

Knicks 106 Tel Aviv 91

high flying Nate Robinson had 19 points

In the third quarter the replacement referees called two technical fouls on the coach from Maccabi, Pini Gershon.

The game was halted for about eight minutes when Pini Gershon continued to linger near Maccabi’s bench — a delay that included a rabbi trying to intervene by asking the NBA’s replacement referees calling the game to allow Gershon to stay.

“I explained that this is not a regular game and the kids are watching and (it’s) important that there will be peace and forgive him,” Rabbi Yitchak Dovid Grossman said of his discussions with the officials. “If you forgive him, I can speak to the children and say, ‘You also forgive. If you have a fight, you forgive.’ But he says this is the law, that you must obey.”

source

It is like an every day event now for the replacement referees to mess something up. Pay the regular referees and get them back.

NBA factoid: As a side note, former Michigan State Spartan Allan Anderson had 20 points for Maccabi Tel Aviv. Anderson enjoyed an impossible weekend while in college playing for Tom Izzo. He defeated Kentucky and Duke in the NCAA playoffs in one weekend, injuring his knee at the end of the Duke game. The next weekend Anderson faced North Carolina and just could not go on the knee. Now he is fighting to get to the NBA and with luck he will make it.
