There seems to be a plethora of quality point guards available on the NBA trade market.

Chad Ford breaks it down for ESPN.com.

this information comes largely from two sources: GMs who tell us what other teams are offering them, and NBA player agents who often play important roles in getting their clients moved this time of year.

While most of the players will not be moved by the trade deadline, if history repeats itself, several will.

Tops on Chad’s list is former North Carolina NCAA champ Raymond Felton of the Bobcats.

Felton is a talented point guard, but he doesn’t fit the pass-first mold that Larry Brown wants in his point guards. With rookie D.J. Augustin looking like the point guard of the future in Charlotte, the chances Felton heads somewhere else are pretty high.

Mike Conley from Ohio State and now on the Grizzlies is next on the list.

Some scratched their heads when the Grizzlies drafted Conley with the No. 4 pick in the 2007 draft. While Conley was a coveted draft prospect, the team was already loaded at the point guard position and it was unclear how he would fit. Eighteen months later, Conley still hasn’t found his groove in Memphis.

Conley is a good distributor and an excellent defender, but his shaky shooting has made him a liability. And with O.J. Mayo now dominating the ball, Conley is often left standing around on offense.

Andre Miller, Kirk Hinrich, and Baron Davis are also on the list.

Sounds like some teams are going to fix their point guard problems this year.

Peter Vescey has this to say about Michael Redd the long distance shooter.

An entrenched Bucks source does not believe Michael Redd will be traded this season.

“We need to make the playoffs this season to regain our fan base,” the source informed.

Yet the vultures continue to circle.

“Everyone is interested [Portland, San Antonio and Dallas, etc.], but their offers are pure [garbage],” said Deep Dish.

Brad Miller to New York?

Mike D’Antoni has got it going on. The Knicks have been cleaning house and adding new players to fit the D’Antoni system.

The latest trade rumor, as reported by Eric Pincus of the most excellent hoop site Hoopsworld, has Sacramento trading Brad Miller for Stephon Marbury.

While this has yet to be confirmed, the Kings might be an ideal suitor for exiled point guard Stephon Marbury of the New York Knicks.

In addition to bolstering one of the Kings’ weaker positions, a Marbury trade could provide Sacramento with enormous salary cap flexibility this summer.

The Knicks would prefer to trade Stephon and are looking for players with two-year deals to field a somewhat competitive roster for the 2009/10 season – but more importantly have as much cap space as possible to go shopping for a banner crop of free agents.

Miller’s passing ability and face up game would be a nice fit in Coach Mike D’Antoni’s system. The Knicks would be able to cash out a disgruntled player for a very workable center.

Based on simple economics – can the Kings even refuse an offer of Marbury for Kenny Thomas and Miller?

Thomas has been languishing on the Kings bench for years. His contract finally runs out conveniently before the summer of 2010.

Last week against the Pistons, with Rasheed Wallace on the bench, Brad Miller manhandled the Pistons. He is for real and still has a lot of hoops left in him.

Chauncey Billups cannot believe his hometown Nuggets did not want him

Hey, you had your chance and blew it. It is hard to believe that nobody in the NBA wanted Rasheed Wallace or Chauncey Billups.

It is difficult to fathom that no team could have improved themselves by dealing for Tayshaun Prince or Rip Hamilton. But that is exactly what happened.

Only Rodney Stuckey is untouchable. The rookie showed great promise in the playoffs last year.

Now Joe D says the deals are done. He is still not happy with the way the season ended. On the Piston tour this past week, Joe D says the expectations are the same, NBA Finals or bust.

New coach Michael Curry is supposed to light the fire under their behinds.

It remains to be seen.

Billups, Hamilton and Prince are entering their seventh season in Detroit, hoping to at least advance to the conference finals for the seventh year in a row.

But Dumars is confident new coach Michael Curry will motivate the old nucleus to play hard.

“Part of the reason we hired Michael Curry was that he can instill a sense of urgency in how we play and the discipline that we play with,” Dumars said. “Those two things were missing last year, in my estimation.”

Nazr Mohammed now a Bobcat

Piston GM Joe Dumars has done it again. Positioning his team for the future. Right now, Joe had Coach Saunders playing lots of young guys and some of them, like Jason Maxiell have really responded. This will make them a better team in the playoffs.

The veterans are getting old and will need to be replaced at some time. When Joe D makes a move his eyes are always to improving the present only if he can improve the long run. Joe D believes in setting his team up to win NBA Championships.

His current trade of Nazr will free up tons of bucks at the end of the year. The Pistons will be seeking to add a low post presence on O and D in the free agent market next year. Joe D has done it again.

The Charlotte Bobcats’ search for a big man ended Friday when they acquired center Nazr Mohammed from the Detroit Pistons in exchange for center Primoz Brezec and forward Walter Herrmann.

Mohammed, averaging 3.3 points and 3.5 rebounds in 21 games for the Pistons, will provide the Bobcats depth they’ve been missing since Sean May underwent season-ending knee surgery during training camp.

The Bobcats have gotten very little from Brezec, who has been starting but averaging only 1.9 points and 2.2 rebounds a game.

Herrmann had failed to crack the Charlotte rotation under new coach Sam Vincent. But both Brezec and Herrmann will provide the Pistons with outside shooting. source

The Bobcats needed some muscle and scoring underneath and Nazr can give them some of that. Joe D has no problem dealing talent away to improve his team.

But don’t kid yourself about what he picked up. He picked up two expendable contracts and nothing else.
