Chris Weber is going to announce his retirement. His knee just could not make it go.

Webber played only nine games this season in his comeback attempt with the Golden State Warriors before being sidelined by a bum knee that has hampered him in recent years.

Webber was the most prominent member of the Fab Five at Michigan and played for Golden State, Washington, Sacramento, Philadelphia and Detroit in his NBA career.
source

Weber wanted to play for the Pistons this year, but no roster spot opened. Joe Dumars spoke to him.

“It was the same thing I told him and told everybody else. Listen, we’re not going to sit here and just eat $2-3 million and sign Chris back at a minimum contract. And I told that to Chris and I told that to (agent) Aaron Goodwin. I said that to the media. I consistently said that. If we could find a home for one of these guys towards the end of the bench and create a roster spot, then we would have a spot. And even then, we’re talking about the fourth or the fifth big man.
source

The bad knee left Chris with options.

Poor Chris Weber, with all that talent, will be remembered as a great Fantasy Basketball player and a player that played most of his healthy career with bad teams.

NBA Basketball Fan Question Did you get to see Chris Weber in his prime?

We held our breath.

How would the three great stars mesh on the hardwood court?

Good thing they meshed early and often, because holding our breath is not really our thing.

Boston Celtics 103 – Washington Wizards 83

One of the three stars could not be happier with the situation at hand.

“I’m at a place right now in my career, I couldn’t ask for anything better,” said Pierce, who led Boston with 28 points.

Garnett did it all — 22 points, 20 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and three steals — in a dazzling debut with Boston. He was introduced to a standing ovation and left to cheers that echoed from the rafters where the team’s 16 championship banners were hanging. source

We still hold our breath now and then, because Ray Allen had 17 points, which sounds good until you realize Ray averaged around 26 last year. In fact, Ray has averaged over 20 points a year for the last 9 years. Ray only took 10 shots in the game.

At this point Ray does not seem bothered.

“People were rocking,” said Allen. “I think they’ve been anticipating this for a long time. The people in Boston, having something on the floor they can root for and rally behind all year.”

Allen admitted he was nervous to start the game, but he got over the jitters to score 17 points in his Celtics debut.

“I had to take a couple of deeper breaths and just kind of go to what I do,” he said. source

Will the quest for a title keep all three players happy, no matter what kind of stats they come up with?

Relax, take a deep breath, Gilbert Arenas can’t declare for Free Agency until after the current season.
He took the opt-out in his contract this past June.
Washington management has everything in the world to worry about. Gilbert wants to play for a team that could possibly win a NBA Championship.
Arenas has blossomed into one of the league’s biggest stars, a legitimate MVP candidate who’s averaged 29.3 and 28.4 points, respectively, the last two seasons.

Offensively, there is nothing he can’t do. He provided a thrilling reminder of that again last season, scoring 40 points or more on nine occasions, including three games of 50-plus and one 60-point night against Kobe Bryant and the Lakers. He won four contests with last-second shots, proving his worth in the clutch.

Washington claims Gilbert is happy with the fans, the city, the team, the hotdogs sold at the arena, but that just does not matter. Arenas wants to feel like a winner by playing for a winner.

Wow, starting to sound like Kobe all over again.

The difference is Gilbert is only 25. Yeah, he is still a kid in NBA years.

Some question whether Gilbert can make his game over into a team style game, but if you were a General Manager wouldn’t you want to test that theory?

The Wizards are an exciting team with playoff structural problems. (Decode: All offense and no defense)

With Arenas, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison, the Wizards have the highest-scoring trio in the league. Arenas was third in the league in scoring last season, while Butler became an All-Star for the first time by raising his level of play significantly, averaging 19.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.1 steals. Jamison, an All-Star two seasons ago, averaged 19.8 points and 8.0 rebounds.

Together, that trio was impressive, but the Wizards didn’t have the defensive presence in the frontcourt to separate from the pack and get 50 wins. They were fourth in scoring but 28th defensively, allowing 104.9 points per game.

The Washington Wizards better get it together soon or Gilbert will be taking his game on the road!

NBA Basketball Fan Question Can Gilbert adapt to a team game?
