Thoughts On All Star Game 07

Again I missed the live broadcast of the All Star Game so I had to catch the replay. Here are my thoughts:
To put things simply, the West was too much for the East as they won 153-132. With 4 of the original stars named injured and without a real point guard in the roster except for Tony Parker, the West still blew the East away. Last year the Est came up from a huge deficit and eventually won. They just lacked the defense and the focus to do so again this year against a deadly offensive West squad. Kobe Bryant led the charge getting named MVP of the game as he posted 31 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals. Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony were the others to break the 20 scoring mark with 29 and 20 respectively.
As usual the game was full of what was called “degree of difficulty” moves like alley-oops and fancy dunks just like the rookie challenge a few days ago. The game was also very devoid of defense early on and when things started getting serious towards the end the East just couldn’t do much.
The Suns style offense really showed in this game as the West followed a very run and gun up tempo offense with shooters all over the floor. It was the perfect style to show off a very offensively gifted roster that features deadly scorers like Ray Allen, Shawn Marion, Melo, Kobe, Dirk, T-Mac and all the others.
Carmelo and Dwight Howard were the most impressive first time all stars. They showed early on that they really belong. Melo had 20 points and 9 rebounds while Howard had 20 points and 9 rebonds. For an All Star Game those stats are really off the charts since they’re just a little off what they would do in a real game in more minutes!

The West sure tore the East up, but I’m interested in knowing what the score would be had the East not missed so many layups! … and they call them All-Stars…
