Looks like good things are up ahead for us Acer Aspire One users who have installed or upgraded to Jaunty Jackalope/Ubuntu 9.04
I’ve just fixed the sound problem and LED for wifi issue with just one package which is linux-backports-modules-jaunty so that was such a happy happy thing!
The notes for the Acer Aspire One are straight to the point so it was easy to see the things one needs to do to make certain things work like wifi and sound. I suppose I was a bit lucky that after installing linux-backports-modules-jaunty I had no more problem with the sound. Now I can plug in my earphones to my netbook and my laptop speakers are not activated unlike right after the upgrade.
One of the interesting things of note is that ext4 is said to work just fine. Oh well, I just upgraded so I am still on ext3 but I’d try to see if anyone I know personally know is on ext4 and get feedback from them.

ext4 has performed flawlessly so far. The improved boot time is well worth the 9.04/ext4 combination.
I have also noted that 9.04 has no problem browsing a Windows/Ubuntu network, locating shared printers, grabbing drivers for those printers…etc.
All around very happy with 9.04 more so than 8.04 or 8.10 and both of those were vast improvements over older versions.
If you decide to reformat to use the ext4…do a simple backup and then go for the install. The partitioning is very simple and will allow you to select the specific Ubuntu partition to format without affecting GRUB or a Windows partition.
I think Microsoft and Apple will soon feel a pinch from Ubuntu.
…I also should share that I am using Ubuntu Netbook Remix. Love it!
The re-install was better than the upgrade by far. None of the problems you had listed existed (exception…LED for wifi…but I deemed it unnecessary)
On initial boot…the first thing it did was see wifi signals and asked me which I wanted to connect to. I also noted that the signal strength seemed increased.
