Acer Aspire One has Linux4One

I saw it this morning: Linux4One.

It’s a custom version of the Ubuntu Netbook Remix customized for the Aspire One. Now you don’t have to get stuck with Linpus but still get the goodies like the default apps such Skype and Amarok. At the same time you can download apps from the Ubuntu repositories so that you still have choices as to what apps you’d actually use whether it’s to make your life productive, or to make communication more efficient for you, you’re not locked out of the repos.

The website is in Italian but there’s always Babelfish or some other translating service if you so wish to read the details. You could download the Linux4One iso here. It’s an RC so if you’re adventurous go start downloading it now. I am going to wait for the stable one though. :) I just hope that you could set the language to English. I think that the default language for that is Italian :)

I downloaded Linux4One and used it live, did not install it on the hard drive. Using it live it did not
detect the wireless network. It is Ubuntu 8.04.
Since I already have Ubuntu 8.10 installed with the netbook remix applications installed I didn’t actually install Linux4One.

    @Kbird I have UNR on my Aspire One and it could detect the network at home. I just can’t seem to get an IP address ^^;

How’s Intrepid Ibex on your Aspire One? :)

I downloaded Linux4One too and used it live on my aao 110l, i did not install it on the hard drive coz using it live it did not detect the wireless network, my sony memorystick, the webcam and the mic or any usb drive with fat16.
    i feel sad

  4. Clair says:

Really? That’s bad :( Oh well. How about Ubuntu UMPC? Maybe you could try it =)

  5. Aristos says:

after fully installing more than 20 distros on my AAO 150L, the only one that really works out of the box is the customized Linpus one. Linux4One had the same issues as all the rest (led, sound, mic problems) so i guess it’s something that has to do with the kernel.

  6. John says:

Don`t try to install this crap, it f*cks up your precious DVD disk because of a boot failure…….

  7. Clair says:

Hi Aristos! Really? Ubuntu UMPC turned out well on mine.

  8. Aristos says:

    hello Clair.
seems that the wifi kill switch & led need the scripts to be activated. the internal mic is another story (still experimenting) :)

  9. Clair says:

Hi Aristos! How’s your experiment going?

  10. Aristos says:

    hello again!
so, the latest version seem to be working very well and it’s actually the closest to the linpus one.
the thing is that you can’t have multiple floating windows, just maximized ones with tabs (_[]X disabled – i could send you a screencast if you’d like).
for the rest, it’s a must-use or at least, a must-try. the lite edition is also interesting for guys (like me) who find the remix layout somehow limiting ;)

    hello all
i have the linux4one on my acer one.when i use skype i can hear and see the person and they can see me but they can’t hear me.mic doenst work.
is there a way to fix this?i need to talk via skype!

  12. kobbey says:

you need to plug in an external microphone, or try to read about it in google, type: acer one ubuntu internal mic ;) keep it real ! don’t let the system get you down ;P
