As long as we’re talking security, Linux.com posted an interesting article that gives some tips on how to improve your SSH security. Although this guide is not geared toward beginners, it can be used as an excellent learning tool. The tutorial covers changing the SSH listening port, allowing only SSH protocol 2, setting up customized user accounts, creating a custom SSH banner, using DSA public key authentication, using TCP wrappers to allow only specific hosts to connect, using iptables to allow only specific hosts to connect, and SSH time-lock tricks. The tutorial is extremely thorough if you ask me!
