New Linux User

Asus EEE lovin’

Everytime I hear or read someone’s happy review of the Asus EEE with the bundled Linux, I can’t help but smile. :) And I also say to myself that these people are the reason why manufacturers musn’t limit themselves to bundling their computers with Microsoft Windows Vista or XP.

As Richard Ingram says on Palm Addicts:

I am not quite that adventurous. I don’t even have any plans on installing WindowsXP. I am having too much fun exploring the default Linux OS. I am also staying with the default tabbed desktop for the forseeable future. It does everything I need. I have found that adding software to Linux is not really difficult. It’s just a matter of find the right package to install. – 15 Feb 2008

See? It’s really quite easy! :D You might as well look for testimonials like this one when you’re trying to convince your mom or dad to buy you one ;)

Actually, I realized today that having an Asus EEE around might be a good thing in the future especially when I am going out and still want to use my computer be it for internet access or something like watching a bunch of video clips or taking down notes. It’s also nifty when going to events and I’d like my pictures to be downloaded to the computer immediately or burn discs with such images so that I could share them with other people. (Yeah because chances are, I’d buy a portable DVD drive by the time I actually end up getting an Asus EEE! And well, there’s still the option of sharing it via a USB hard drive or flashdrive but why not discs?!)

To answer your portable DVD drive question, that would be great with the eee if you intend to give a copy of whatever you made to someone else on the spot.

Then again, I might go for the Ridata 4GB and 8GB memory cards instead and have this permanently installed into the eee. At least you don’t have the chance of accidentally forgetting that you have a disc on you and end up breaking it into two. :D
