Checking out Gjots2

I am looking at other note-taking apps aside from Tomboy. Though I love Tomboy’s wiki-like interface, I am wondering if there are other choices out there. One is Gjots2. It’s mainly an outliner-type of a tool so expect trees and hierarchies to be obvious. The user interface of Gjots2 isn’t bad, really.

Things to like about Gjots2:

1. You can export notes into HTML or Docbook. If you are so inclined, that is. It might be good if you plan to publish your notes online or share it with other people.
2. The GUI is good because you can easily promote and demote ‘nodes’ in your notes.
3. The tree view on the side pane could be more compact just by clicking on the triangles on the side you want to close.
4. It inserts a new node if you demote one and there are no other items above it on the tree view.

Things I don’t quite like:

1. You need to use the command line for exporting the files in HTML and stuff. It’s not too much of a hassle for me but it would be easier for new users to find out where it is if it was an option that’s easily available to them on the application’s GUI.
2. It’s not apparent what the difference is between a new page and a new child.

You might want to check out Gjots2 if it suits your needs. At the moment, I am thinking of going back to Emacs Wiki + Outline or Emacs Org mode.
