I really like Rythmbox and I don't get the fuss about Amarok. Anytime I have tried Amarok I found it slow and confusing. Rythmbox is pretty basic but it does it's job very well IMHO. There is an Ipod Sync, but it is a little clunky. But other than that I don't see any reason to use anything else.

I too just started using Rhythmbox after years of using Amarok. I was blown away by how fast it was. My collection is 22,000 plus and as soon as I hit the icon it is ready to go. Amarok (mySQL) would take a minute or two before it was usable. The only thing that I don't like is that the columns cannot be moved. Other than that, I've been quite happy with it.

I've been using Quod Libet for ages now, mostly because it's fast and has that nice System Files view that I REALLY like. Actually, it's probably the only reason why I don't just switch to Rhythmbox at once. Rhythmbox seems even faster and lighter, which is always good with over 10.000 songs. Amarok, Listen, Exaile and Banshee all seem terribly heavy and slow to me. And I've tried them all :)

What's wrong with Rhythmbox and iPod? Doesn't sync? I've always used gtkpod, mostly because I can never trust any music player will do it right without leaving a bunch of orphan music and whatnot. ;)

I do like Rhythmbox, although 0.12.5 seems to have a glitch whereby a song in a playlist is muted, but still appears to be playing. Pressing Play twice returns the audio, but pressing 'next' starts the next song /and/ unmutes the muted song, which then can't be stopped without closing Rhythmbox completely. I haven't been able to reliably reproduce the problem though.

Ireally want to be able to show utube videos on aspire one. mplayer only plays audio. I have tried to use VLC. and used codes found on Macles but nothing works.
Would it be any good if I removed and tried to re-install mplayer? What does xine do?
At the moment I am considering using something else. I have a usb DSL with windows. Even that has me beaten. I presume you need to access the terminal to put on a multimedia program. How can I get at the terminal. (I hope that I will be driven to go back to Windows!

Mint has the advantage of seeing how the early days of an ubuntu release shape up. No-one should expect an across the board universal problem free ubuntu release that isn't a long term release - and Karmic isn't a long term release. For this reason I like to hang back a few weeks from installing the latest ubuntu so the bugs have a chance to get ironed out. Or wait and install Mint, which I have done and found it to be solid and reliable from day one.
