   Laff..it’s not up to me. RMS himself named it and you can see his *very* clear explanation at the FSF link above

   Argh…I should read my own links before writing.

   I agree - it’s a recursive acronym for ‘Guh-noo is Not Unix’. But that doesn’t change the pronounciation of GNU

   I think they might be talking about the animal. The GNU appears to be their mascot.

   Actually, if you read your link it says “it is pronounced g-noo, as one syllable with no vowel sound between the g and the n.”

   So I don’t think “Guh-noo” is right either since it implies the vowel sound. No?
