Gimmie this and that and all my favorites

My friend showed me his desktop yesterday and I found it oh so funky! He’s using Gimmie to find his favorites: be it apps or people that chats with on IM. It’s basically his panel now and I found it cute and useful, especially if you’d like to immediately see the people you’ve talked with especially when it comes to work. Also, what’s useful about it is that you could immediately search for something like an app or a name. In a way it reminds me of Beagle search but this is mainly from the panel and it could launch the stuff that you have.

The interface is pretty easy to understand. There are icons which you could see with the associated app or contact. If it’s a contact on Google Talk, the person will have he user picture there. You could also sort according to how recent you contacted someone or how recent you used an app. It’s nifty especially when you recently installed new apps and don’t quite know where in the menu they are, or when you keep on using just a particular set of apps.

So, yeah, in some ways Gimmie is an app that let’s you say something like “Gimme [name of app/contact]” and you will have it as you wish! ;)
