I've switched to Linux not because Windows sucks (actually it doesn't) but because I am an idealist that believes in Open Source.
(+ the power of the Shell :x)

I was first drawn to open source software through open office for windows. I then decided to try ubuntu after becoming tired of all the maintenance that windows requires. I have been using ubuntu for almost a year and regularly trying out other distros. the only reason I even use windows anymore is to backup DVD's.

I've been getting tired of Windows. I have XP which was a good OS, but it was full of security holes. Then in my opinion Vista was even worse. It seems like Linux is much more stable and secure than Windows.

I used windows until one day my hard drive was corrupted. This was probably my fault, because I had left it on top of my speakers, forgetting they contained powerful magnets. Anyway, I had lost the windows install CD and really didn't want to pay for a new one, and I had been dual-booting already with SUSE 10.0 (which hadn't recognized any hardware except for graphics card, keyboard, and mouse), so I though i might as well try Ubuntu 7.04 before going to buy the windows install disc.

I switched because I was running an unauthorized copy of Windows XP, and was having trouble with it. My brother, who is a die-hard Linux user, talked me into trying Kubuntu. Since it was free, how could I pass it up?! Ever since, I've been hooked. There are a few things that irritate me, and sometimes (okay, most times) I feel like I just don't have the time/patience/knowledge to troubleshoot & research solutions when something's gone awry, but it's really a small price to pay when you finally realize the world that's been opened to you. If you want to do something, anything, there's an open source program somewhere that does just that, and the linux community is the most helpful group around... you're dealing with people who truly *care* about the product, and aren't just paid to be there. (*cough*MS*cough*) They'd have to care, to be willing to dedicate so much time and effort for the greater cause, since they're not getting paid for it.

I never got used to win logic. After 8-bit machines I switched to Amiga which shaped the way I interact with a machine. Once you have lived with Amiga, which is intuitive, friendly and crashes only if you put some effort in breaking it, you don't feel like working with win.

I wanted something more solid and reliable than Windows but beats the price of a Mac any day of the year!
