Linux distro releases: OpenSUSE 10.3

I’ve heard great things about OpenSUSE from friends. Especially those who love the package manager YAST and the desktop environments that come with the distro.

What sounds very interesting to me are:

  • A flexible Linux-Windows dual-boot configuration
  • compatibility of MS Office files with the latest OpenOffice.org
  • mp3 support - out of the box
  • 1-click install option

Sometimes people are afraid to go completely Linux because of their work and they really feel that they can’t learn it quickly so the option to dual boot is a welcome one for them. If you’re having difficulty completely switching over to Linux, try to dual boot. Maybe with this version of OpenSUSE, you might feel more comfortable. :)

mp3 support is something music lovers would definitely like. Some people rant about how they have to install codecs and that looking for the packages is difficult because of the weird package names. With OpenSUSE 10.3, seems you could start that party of yours in no time!

And of course, the 1-click install option makes it less confusing to install apps now. Hopefully. I haven’t tried it yet. So I am really hoping it is that way. Oh and it seems that you could 1-click install Invidia drivers.

For this release, it is said to have the following:

  • A flexible Linux-Windows dual-boot configuration
  • compatibility of MS Office files with the latest OpenOffice.org
  • preview of KDE4
  • OpenOffice.org 2.3
  • Linux kernel 2.6.22
  • Xen 3.1
  • VirtualBox 1.5
  • mp3 support - out of the box
  • 1-click install option

Details of the OpenSUSE 10.3 release is here. From the looks of it — definitely impressive!

Well done, OpenSUSE guys! :)
