Linux on Refurbished Computers

Got old computers or computer parts? Re-use them. Or donate them to a center such as the Alameda County Computer Resource Center (ACCR). They would welcome your computer parts! ;) And if you feel like volunteering, they’d even teach you how to install Linux. (They’re apparently using Suse and Ubuntu, mainly.)

Though the ACCR is experiencing some troubles with the Department of Toxic Substance Control of the California Environmental Protection Agency, I think that their project is worth every effort. All the more here in the Philippines where there are many public schools which need some help in fixing up in every possible way. There are shops that refurbish computers here but I think that they don’t really include Linux with it when you buy it from them. As for the refurbished computers donated to a school in Mindanao, an article I read about it didn’t say what software was included in the computers. Why should it matter? some people might ask. I think it matters because you can’t really use them computers without anything in them, right? And Linux does have some nifty apps that students of different ages could use.

By donating your old computer or computer parts, you don’t just help in re-using them, you could also help others learn more. And you could even add to your skills if you do help out in centers like ACCR. ;) That, I think, is simply awesome.
