Miss the animated Y!Messenger emoticons on Pidgin?

Someone asked me today if the emoticons on Pidgin were really static. He missed using the animated emoticons on Yahoo! Messenger. Apparently, there is a way for us to use the emoticons we see in our instant messaging protocol. It’s by getting a tarball of the collection of emoticons and selecting as a preference in Pidgin.

Andrei Neculau has made a collection of various protocols’ emoticons and provided them here. You just need to download the tarball, go to the Preferences menu in Pidgin then look for that tarball and select it. After that you should be able to see all those cute emoticons that would make Pidgin look more familiar. At least when it comes to communicating with animated emoticons. ;)

Enjoy!
