Poll result: VLC is the media player of choice

Then again, only 49 readers voted so I am not quite sure of the rest. The results are as follows:
- mplayer – 18 – 37% of all votes
- vlc – 20 – 41% of all votes
- totem – 7 – 14% of all votes
- xine – 4 – 8% of all votes

VLC and Mplayer only had a difference of two votes. Could it be that the ones who voted for VLC liked its default settings as well as the user interface? Maybe so. Or whoever voted for VLC could share their thoughts here. 
As I mentioned before, I like VLC and use it frequently. Though I do experiment and use other apps like Exaile and Audacious too!
Looks like Mplayer is still popular. The nice thing about mplayer is that it plays practically anything! 
There’s a graphical user interface so it’s not as difficult to use as others would think. But, of course, some might not be comfortable fiddling around with too many settings. I usually check out the man pages if I really have to — when the video’s subtitles are delayed in showing up or it could be that the audio and the video are not in sync.
I wonder what you were all thinking when you answered the poll. Especially those who are totally new to Linux. I’d like to know what you love about those apps.
i voted VLC although i do use mplayer for all subbed video that i watch. i tend to watch more english languaged movies therefor VLC is used more. Mplayer by far has better sub support which VLC lacks in a horrid way.so technically for all non-subbed video VLC for all subbed video Mplayer
Don: I know what you mean. I encountered similar troubles on VLC recently. But mplayer was really great! It allows me to choose which audio track and which subtitle track I’d have when watching DVDs.
