Hi, Peter. I only mentioned Paint because it is part of the Accessories menu in Windows. Not all Windows users install Photoshop, I think. At least, I don't think they install it immediately.

Hi, Imitis and Arnold. Thanks for sharing those cool Gimp links :D

I don't think comparing GIMP to MS Paint is at all right - Gimp is more photoshop, BUT it comes pre-installed and is free. KolourPaint is the nearest thing to MS Paint.

To me gimp is.... passable. I can use it to crop images, resize, and do basic stuff, but for anything more advanced than line drawing and labeling things with text I find it MUCH too unintuitive, as I previously used photoshop.
However, there is a plugin for gimp called GimpShop which rebuilds the layout of the UI so it is a very close approximation to photoshop -- I suggest anyone who has difficulty with gimp give it a try!

I am not a graphics kind of guy but GIMP has always impressed me. It is kind of weird but only if you are use to using Photoshop. Does Gimpshop do a little better?
Then if GIMP does not do it for you, there is Xara Xtreme, Krita and mtPaint. Isn't Linux wonderful?
