Swiftfox – optimised firefox

If you have ever felt that Firefox is a bit sluggish and other browsers lack features you need then swiftfox may be the answer!

Swiftfox provides Firefox builds optimized for your CPU to save you the hassle of compiling from source. I tried this a long time ago and saw no noticeable speed improvements, however a recent version seems to give my browsing a well required speed boost.

If you are running a Debian based distribution then you can find .deb’s at http://getswiftfox.com/debian.htm.

Happy browsing,
George Bunyan

  1. I’d like to see some benchmarking. Do you know of any site that has benchmarked swiftfox vs firefox? With and without common extensions?

  2. Ben says:

Swiftfox definitely seems a little different – for one thing the inactive tabs are slightly glazed which helps highlight the active tab (the only one showing the ‘close button’)

Minor annoyances – ‘check for updates’ is not active, and Firefox 3 launcher also launches Swiftfox now – even clicking the FF 3 binary launches Swiftfox – it took over!
