Ubuntu 6.10 exits, Enter Ubuntu 8.04

Ubuntu 6.10’s almost at the end of its support period, coming this April 25, 2008. For those of you are wondering how to upgrade, check out the Feisty Upgrades page. However, the upcoming release is in beta already. Details are on the Ubuntu 8.04 Beta Release page. As it is still in beta, there might still be some quirks which need to be ironed out by the development team.

Some things you should expect in 8.04:

• a new screen resolution utility which would help you use a second monitor
• GNOME 2.22
• Firefox 3 Beta 4 — Yay!!! Firefox 3 rocks.
• Transmission replaces Gnome Bittorrent downloader
• Brasero is installed as a the CD/DVD burning application
• Wubi – for Windows users so they could have the experience of something similar to a dual boot setup

There are actually more features but these are some of the things you’d probably enjoy seeing right away. I haven’t used Transmission yet but the screenshot looks good – at least you don’t need to see many windows open just to see your downloads. But one really neat thing I like is the screen resolution utility because I sometimes use an extended monitor. So just download the beta release if you’re willing to be on the ‘bleeding edge.’
