Vim Tutorial for newbies on Linuxconfig

Sorry for the indefinite hiatus. I’ve been sick on and off. In any case, here’s a link to tutorials for those who want to learn vi/vim.

vi/vim could be confusing to new users because of the user interface. Learning how to use vi/vim would require a different mindset. It is such a compact editor for the terminal that the commands might look intimidating.

This particular vi/vim tutorial on linuxconfig.org is great because it has a video you could follow of what things would look like on the screen. In this case, I really think that words are not enough to show how vim works because you need to experience it and imitate an example.

Using vim is different because you need to learn that there are different modes at work and that there’s nothing very obviousthat shows you what mode you are in. I hope you find it useful too! It helps me learn how to use vi/vim for those quick edits on the command line.

Ouch! Sorry, Clair. Hope you’re feeling much better now.

And thank you for this link. I need this for the Cygwin series on my website. :-)
