Really like Ubuntu. I like to tweak my PC so I spent along time messing with it and learned a lot. I could just installed it though and it would have just run fine. One word of advise though if you have an Nvidia card don't go and download their driver (installing it is a pain and every system update breaks it ) Just use the Ubuntu supported one by going to System>Drivers and checking use proprietary drivers. It's usually a few versions behind the latest nvidia one but it works consistently. My Wacom tablet is acting a bit odd but other wise it's a fantastic experience.

This upgrade to 8.04 is my second OS in a row and both went pretty smooth. I have been very happy with Hardy and have no complaints. I had to make a few minor adjustments to the Gnome panel, but everything else was great from the start. I am giving firefox beta a thorough test and it seems to be pretty good, but I have swiftweasel installed just in case.

I upgraded my Ubuntu to PCLinuxOS 2007 and I couldn't be happier. Now, everything works and I can get back to enjoying my computing as well as getting my bugs fixed within a few weeks instead of a few years.

I did a clean install of Ubuntu 8.04, and it runs like a dream, boots and shuts down way faster than OpenSuSE ever did on this machine. No problems all my hardware worked without having to tweak anything.

My PC upgrade went fine, no issues really (it still can't stand-by properly, but that's not a huge issue as Xubuntu boots in seconds on this hardware)

My laptop however had wifi issues. Again. Third dist-upgrade in a row with issues! It took a day and a half to figure out how to fix it. There is a bug in the kernel/one of the modules which means a module called SSB is 'stealing' control of the wifi card before the drivers are loaded (which means the drivers are ignored). It took a while to figure out, but eventually with the help of the Ubuntu Forums I got it fixed. Other than that, it was all good!

I'm not entirely sure about Firefox 3.0b5 though. More than half of my addons are now disabled pending new versions, and I have a feeling those wont come out until it's officially released : (

I had problems with my Intel 3945abg wireless card. They transitioned from the ipw3945 drivers to the ilw3945 drivers and had to install the backported kernel modules in order to get connectivity. My LED still doesn't work and I can not turn my wireless off and back on without having to reboot to get connectivity.

Other than that Hardy Heron Rocks!

You mean "8.08", not "4.08" :)

Truthfully, when I compare my install of 4.08 to previous installs of Ubuntu (for me it started with Breezy Badger) this was one of the easiest installs I've done. The only version that went smoother for me was 7.10 because setting my Wacom went much smoother.

4.08?

My 8.04 experience has been quite smooth so far. The only problem I had was updating the GRUB menu, but that was my fault for clicking the wrong button during the upgrade process (from 7.10) and keeping the old menu.lst intact instead of adding the new kernel.

its 8.04
install as an upgrade produced odd results, and hanging. Clean install was superb, and has not missed a beat since.
