Wondering about Mezzo for the desktop

I’ve always been a big fan of Gnome as well as the minimalist Ratpoison. (I know, it’s weird. But they serve different purposes for me.) Also, most of the Linux distributions include a desktop environment such as Gnome or KDE. But there are times that I wonder if there are other desktop environments out there.

Fortunately, I read about Symphony OS (and it’s being downloaded as I type and hopefully it will take less than 2 hours to download!). The desktop environment it uses is Mezzo. There are no panels on the top of the screen or at the bottom. The menus for programs are on one corner of the screen, the access to your computer’s partitions, etc.

The review on Tuxmachines noted some troubles with X.org so I am hoping that the download I get later will be manageable. :)
