Zencafe Linux for Your Internet Cafe

In the Philippines, we have so many internet cafes, or internet shops (as one could see on the shop windows). Most of them are running Windows because of the MMORPGs and also because their customers ask for applications like Microsoft Office, and the like. I’ve actually seen one shop use Ubuntu on its machines, about half of the machines there and as far as I could see, his customers were happy and productive.

If you’re wondering what kind of Linux you should use, it’s always a matter of preference. But internet cafes are more complicated because shop owners have to cater to different people with varying needs. As such, there are those people who are developing Linuxen for it. One example of such a project is Zencafe, which is a Linux disto geared towards internet cafe usage. It even includes an internet cafe management software (they even posted a screenshot on their blog). How great is that eh? Release 1.2 of Zencafe is available for download here. And for people who love Slackware, I am sure there’s some who are thrilled about it!

Can’t wait to find another internet cafe with Linux running on its computers… especially Zencafe.:D

I have just migrated from microsoft and installed Ubuntu 7.1 and 6 on some computers in my cybercafe. I have managed to install CCL and now I have just known about Zencafe. I realy want to try it as soon as I download it. If I install Zencafe on some machines, will CCL work well, while other machines are on Ubuntu?

  2. OTOYO says:

I also don’t know how to use CCL well. Can I view reports of say products sold, total cash on the clients and even print receipts?

I am sorry but I am not very familiar with the troubles you’re all having with this particular distro. Hrmm. I’d try to give a shout out on the blog this week, I hope it’s ok?

Do MMORPGs not work with Zencafe? I am downloading it now to try it out. It could save a lot of money running Ubuntu 7.1 and Zencafe over Windows and say Smartlaunch. How is this working for you guys?

I am checking right now a few linux os’s such as zencafe, ubuntu 9.10, famelix to see which one is the best for my customers… I like using ubuntu especially comfusion(ubuntu+compiz+fusion) if any one finds something really nice that customers like let me know so i can try it. right now i still havent installed linux in any computer of my cyber because i want to make sure that they will get it fast without any problem. I also know that if implement linux in my cybercafe i wil have to put someone to help my customers for like about the first two weeks… However, it is going to be worth it because linux is more stable, runs a lot faster. Besides this you have better control of the bandwidth and many other things without taking into account that you can get any program o application that comes to your mind for free…
