Are You ‘Too Human’?

Find out with the new demo and trailer released on Friday from Canuck developer Silicon Knights and Microsoft Game Studios. The action/RPG game, allows you to god mode without annoying fellow gamers, as you play Baldur, a big, tough cybernetic god who is trying to save mankind from an on-slaught of machine armies bent on their destruction.
The demo will be available on Monday, July 14th at 6pm GMT, exclusively on Xbox LIVE for Gold membership holders and will feature part of the first level of the game.
The E3 trailer shows what players can expect from the epic adventure based around Norse mythology. I think they’ve got a ways to go yet to sharpen up the quality of the game, but really, it’s a pretty cool take on things despite reliance on the quickly-becoming-old “machines take over the earth” line. Diablo 3 Gameplay

For those of you anxiously awaiting the release of Diablo III, now that it’s finally official, here’s a video that will help make you even more impatient. Some of us were lucky enough to be present at the Worldwide Invitational and see first hand all the excellent content coming our way from Blizzard Entertainment. For those who didn’t get a chance to attend the convention, there’s always the Internet.
An attendee at the WWI was kind enough to record some of the gameplay demonstrations from the Diablo III panel and upload them to YouTube for everyone to experience.
Below is a sample of some of the content that will be available in Diablo III.
On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Demo

There’s a demo over at Greenhouse that I really think you should have a look at if you’re looking for something a little bit different than the big blockbusters on the shelves. Bearing the weighty name of On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One you can bet that it features big and weighty topics like three storey fruit-humping robots, teriyaki-filled fire hydrants, and
The game, the brainchild of the twisted minds behind the Penny Arcade comic empire, brought to life by the equally mad developers at Hothead Games is:
Based on the popular web comic …this an episodic RPG-Adventure game set in the deranged 1920s universe of New Arcadia.
I gave it the old college try, skeptical that a pair so deeply in tune with the guts of the industry could find something fresh to present to their fans, but I was pleasantly surprised. The narrative base to the whole affair, styled in the well-known, well-loved irreverent banter of Gabe and Tycho keep the game lively and well, pretty damn funny to boot. The interface and ease of play was combined with familiar elements like Final Fantasy style battles and a few twists and turns, like the Mortal Kombat-esque combos required to execute special moves. From the demo it looks like a wild ride, and with a Mature rating, you can bet that typical Penny Arcade lashings are due for an appearance. Thoroughly enjoyable, stylistically refreshing, and totally engaging.
Available for almost any operating system you could ask for, this is fun fun for everyone. And frankly, at $19.95 for a full version, digital download game…the price is more than right.
Elementary My Dear Watson: Holmes Demo Up

If you’re looking for something different to try out this weekend that doesn’t involved military squads, cute little bobble heads, or WoW, how about stepping into the shoes of one of the greatest fictional detectives of all time in Sherlock Holmes: Nemesis? I’m moving this weekend and kind of internets-less on the home front, but I loves me a good mystery/crime game, particularly on that isn’t attached to a CSI franchise and takes place in bonny bonny Britain in the 19th century. Focus Home Interactive has done just that by bringing together two heavy hitters in the world of fiction for a battle of the titans.
Your task as Sherlock Holmes, apparently, is to prevent the heist of a priceless painting from the National Gallery in London by gathering clues, talking to witnesses, scouring scenes and putting it all together. Famous French thief Arsène Lupin, a cocky gentlemen burglar has challenged Scotland Yard by announcing his plans to rob London of five precious objects in five days. The demo allows you to prevent the painting theft, but other missions that will be in the full game include locations like: the British Museum, the Tower of London and, naturally, Buckingham Palace.
If you want to have a peek, the single location demo can be downloaded from the following sites:

Spore To Spawn On iPhones

It seems fitting that the hippest tech toy on the market at the moment and the game touted as the most complex, innovative title in years get together. Think of it as an agglomeration of trendy, or a powerhouse consumer electronics union that will eventually enslave humanity…
What the hell am I talking about? Apple’s iPhone and Will Wright’s Spore naturally. EA plans on having Spore released for the iPhone at the same times as the September release for other gaming systems.
EA’s Travis Boatman gave a demo of the sim last week, demonstrating the iPhone’s ability to play the complete game, including cutscenes. The company is also working on other titles for the iPhone, but no word on what those might be quite yet.
Check out the demo:
Is it just me, or is EA being awfully Mac friendly lately? Not that I’m complaining, it’s nice to see!
Silverfall Demo For Download

RPG fans looking for a free fix might want to check out Atari’s upcoming Silverfall. Due to hit the US shores in March of this year, the game plays to the traditional strengths of the genre by pitting seemingly opposing sides (nature versus science in this case), fanciful creature versus fanciful creature, and all in a landscape the likes of which we can only dream.
Interested gamers around the globe can take a stab at the 1.4 Mb demo, available for download from FilePlanet and a variety of other kind-hearted hosts.

Top Indy Games of 2006

Champion of the independent games cause, Russ Carroll, has ear-marked the Top 10 Independent Games of 2006. In the fifth iteration of Game Tunnel’s chart listing, you can find everything from Sims-like character manipulation to real time strategy, and most things in between.
The reason I’m posting this, albeit a little late, is that I’m a huge fan of independent games myself. They’re affordable (trials for freeeeeeee!), adventurous, often innovative, and they haven’t, perhaps due to their creators continuing poverty and struggle, forgotten that the main goal in gaming is fun.
Congratulations to Czech design crew Cinemax for snagging top honours with Gumboy Crazy Adventures, a game that I’ve tried and immensely enjoyed. It reminds me a little of Sonic the Hedgehog spliced with Super Mario, all in the form of a wad of gum. Intriguing? Try it for yourself.
