Prima Sims 2 Guide Set on Sale

I Just noticed that on Amazon they have a set of 7 strategy books for the Sims 2 are on sale right now. Normally each book is around $10 each so this is a great deal for just $16.49.

Then again, I’ve never bought a prima guide. Do you guys have them and find them useful? I’m trying to decide if I should buy the set. Let me know what you think.

MySims Online Games

For those of you who don’t know about it already, MySims came out back in September for the Nintendo Wii. It’s a cute cartoonish version of the Sims and is already getting a large following.

I was checking out the MySims website today when I came across a few fun looking online games. These little flash diversions include a Sushi Chef Minigame, the Create-a-Thing Minigame, and DJ Candy’s Room Designer.

The whole website is actually very cute. If you’re a parent who knows that your kids are into video games but you want to keep them away from the really violent ones, MySims looks like a really good idea.

Sims 2 Freetime Arts & Crafts

Maxis has just released a few more screenshots from the soon-to-be released expansion for everyone’s favorite game: The Sims 2: Freetime. These pix feature all the cool arts and crafts you can have your Sims do in addition to the old build something activities.

I was always a big fan of the robot building set and the wood carving station. It looks from these shots like they’ll be adding sewing machines, pottery, and kids can now benefit from viewing art being made. Unfortunately your Sims cannot wear the things they make on the sewing machine so, in my mind, it’s not really a big upgrade. Maybe they’ll add that feature to the next expansion?

SimCity Societies Fun and Interesting

Even though this is a bit off the subject of the Sims and the Sims 2, I thought it would be fun to take a look at one of Maxis’ newest games that’s a big upgrade from one of their oldest. SimCity Societies came out just about two months ago and is the fifth installment of the SimCity series.

In this version, you get unprecedented control to build your city and mold its character by choosing to focus on any mix of six societal characteristics: roductivity, prosperity, creativity, spirituality, authority, and knowledge. Each type has its own unique class of buildings, benefits, drawbacks, and costs and many generate "specialty sims" that help regulate or confuse your city.

The graphic detail is absolutely stunning and, once you figure out the details of how each window and control panel works, gameplay is relatively seamless even at high graphic levels. Two drawbacks to mention: 1) The game often slows down when autosaving and its seems to do this about every 3 minutes. 2) Once you’ve built up a really substantial city, it’s a little difficult to maneuver through all the buildings and focus on their individual issues and functions.

Overall, I think this is a great game that’s well worth the $40 or so retail price (on special now at Amazon for $31.99). If you love the Sims and you love strategy-type gaming, you will get hooked on SimCity Societies. Check out the official website here and some of the better screenshots below.
