1.The SIMS 2 or The Sims 2 Holiday Edition: These are for the person in your family that doesn’t have the Sims 2. You can start off with either one (not both) but if it’s a Christmas or other holiday present why not go for the Holiday Edition with has a pretty bow on it and also comes with fun holiday items! Remember though that if you already have the Sims 2, don’t buy The Sims 2 Holiday Edition. It contains all the original Sims 2 installation stuff that will screw up your game if you try to install it. If you have the Sims 2 already and want to add holiday items jump to # 6 on my gift guide.
2. Sims 2: University PC + Prima’s Official Strategy Guide: This was the first expansion pack added to The Sims 2. I think it adds some of the most exciting new options to your Sims game. It adds a whole new age (now you go from toddler->child->teenager->university age) that comes with new opportunities. You can create University towns for your Sims to go to and learn new skills and make loads of friends. When they come out of it they’ll have a degree that essentially jump starts their careers. They don’t start at the same level as someone without a University Degree which makes reaching your Sims’ life goals easier. Wouldn’t this also be a perfect gift for a High School graduate heading off to school? Remember though that this is an expansion pack and therefore you need either The Sims 2 or the Sims 2 Holiday Edition to make this game work. (This goes for all the other items on this list) Check out Amazon for deals when you buy the two together.
3. The Sims 2: Nightlife Expansion Pack + Prima Official Game Guide: This expansion pack adds some really great ways to party with your Sims. It lets you have a downtown and nightspots for your Sims to visit. They can now go on really fun dates and my favorite, they can turn into vampires!
4. Sims 2: Open for Business PC + Prima Official Game: Wow, was I ever excited when I brought this expansion pack home! This adds the ability to start your own business. You can now create objects like wooden toys or electronic gizmos and even sell baked goods. Another favorite object of mine that came with this expansion pack is the Hair dresser chair. You get to charge people to play around with their makeup and hair!
5. The Sims 2 Pets Expansion Pack+Prima Official Game Guide: The newest of the Sims 2 expansion packs, the Sims 2 Pets makes it possible for your families to have pets. This includes dogs and cats as well as birds and hamsters. Your dogs and cats can even get jobs! This is perfect for the animal lover in your family!
6. The Sims 2 Happy Holiday Stuff: This new Stuff pack by the Sims offers tons of holiday items and outfits for your Sims. It’s just like the holiday items included in The Sims 2 Holiday edition except it has 20 new items. I’m seriously thinking about getting this soon so I can deck out my Sims halls with Holiday decorations. I think this pack will also lend itself nicely to the next hinted expansion pack for the Sims that I think will include changing seasons! I’m so excited for that! Anyway, this pack is a great stocking stuffer for a Sims 2 fan.
7. Sims 2 Family Fun Stuff: When I first got this Stuff pack I was a little disappointed with it because it doesn’t add that much. But after having it for about a year now I realize how much I use the items that it comes with. I hardly ever make a child’s room without the wallpaper and carpeting that comes with it.
8. Electronic Arts Sims 2 Glamour Life Stuff: Although I don’t have this pack yet (hint hint) I know it adds all sorts of new objects and outfits to make your Sims look and feel more glamorous! I like the idea of the new stereo that it comes with which looks pretty slick.
9. Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 5000- Dusk Blue + Mini Wrist Rest (Blue Crystal): Now if you’re a Sims 2 player and you have a laptop without an additional mouse this will open your eyes to a whole new level of gaming. When I got my laptop and tried to play The Sims using my touchpad I found out quickly that it’s not nearly the same. You just can’t get the same angles on your Sims without a mouse with a scroll bar. The reason I added the gel wrist rest is because if you’re like me you’ll play the Sims for hours on end and it can really hurt after a while. This fun blue colored wrist rest is an essential part of my playing experience.
10. SimpleTech SimpleDrive 250 GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive: As any Sims 2 player knows this game eats up a lot of space. Especially if you’re like me and make loads of Sims movies and take a lot of pictures. So if you don’t already have a lot of space, this is a really good idea. Now you can keep all of your movies and even back up your games without worries!
