The pants available in Sims 2 leave a bit to be desired. Even with the addition of the “peaking boxer” jeans, I still find myself wanting more.

That’s why these pants make me so darn happy.

Not only are they more casual but the chunky boot just strikes me as more true to life. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

The entries for week one of the Sims Gamer Architectural Challenge will be up momentarily for your voting pleasure.  Remember, the points you receive in voting are cumulative across all 8 weeks.  The person with the most points will receive a $50 Amazon gift certificate.  Meanwhile, check out the new challenge for week 2. 

Sim Leora inherited this old house from her granny, and thought it would be a great idea to capitalize on all the university students in her area by renting out her basement.  Unfortunately, the old lady left it in pretty crappy shape.  She was a bit of a pack rat.  She never threw anything out, she just threw it down the stairs.

Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to clean up the basement and make some renovations so Sim Leora can overcharge two hapless students to live in these new swanky digs.  Keep in mind that Sim Leora doesn’t trust her renters and therefore wants you to create a separate entrance and block off the basement suite from the rest of the house. 

You are free to add and remove furniture as you see fit, redecorate the walls and floors, and add and change existing walls and structures so long as basement itself is not made any larger than it already is.  The suite should include at least two bedrooms, an eating area, a bathroom, and a shared recreational space.  Don’t forget that the renters are students, and will need their own desks and computers to study for their exams and write their term papers as well as other "educational" items.  No cheats are allowed with the exception of the "diagonal" and "move_objects on" functions.  The existing stairwell into the basement may be removed, moved, or modified as you see fit so long as the other requirements and limitations are followed.

Download the lot from Sims2.com here.  This week, you only need up to Sims 2 University to load the house.  Hopefully that will allow everyone to participate.

Email me your packaged entry no later than Thursday at noon, Central Standard Time.  The file must be saved with the following title format: yourname-arch-week-2.  Entries not submitted with the proper file name will be automatically disqualified.

Sims Leora bought this lot from a guy who told her it was water front property.  Without thinking she bought it from him.  When she finally saw the lot she realized why it was so cheap.

It’s covered in flood damage!  Can you help Sim Leora make the most out of her investment?

Here’s your challenge:

Without changing the terrain at all (You can’t raise, lower, flatten ground or get rid of any water) build sims Leora a house.  Here’s what you need to have in the house:

• 1 bedroom big enough for sims Leora and her husband
• 1 bathroom with a shower/tub, sink, toilet
• a half bathroom (powder room )with just a toilet and sink
• an office for her to sim blog from
• a kitchen with place to sit and eat for at least 5 people
• a family room with TV, games, bookshelf, etc.

No cheats are allowed and any objects that don’t come with the sims and the expansion packs will need to be included in the packaged house sent in to me.

Entries must be packaged and emailed to  me at leora at b5media dot com no later than Thursday October 11th at 5:00 pm my time (USA Central time).  Make sure to rename your lot file using your name or nickname.  The format should be something like "yourname-arch-week-1".

I’m pleased to announce a completely new Simsgamer contest.  The Simsgamer Architectural Challenge contest will test your Sims 2 building and designing abilities to the max.  This is how it will work.

Each week I’ll announce the challenge.  It might involve downloading a house I’ve built and redesigning it or perhaps there will be a theme you must work around. 

Once you make your entry for the week, you’ll package the house and email it to me.  I’ll then take pictures and post them on Simsgamer.  Then the readers will vote on their favorite entry of the week. 

The 1st place will get 3 points, second 2 and third 1.  There will be 8 weeks and at the end I’ll add up the points and whoever has the most will get a $50 Amazon gift certificate. 

Remember you don’t have to enter each week, but the more you participate the more likely you are to win.  If there’s a tie there will be a bonus voting round where you the readers will vote for the ultimate winner.

Also there will be a secondary prize for those of you who don’t have the time to design.  Each week I’ll make a framed picture of Sims Leora on vacation in one of the three Sims 2 Bon Voyage vacations or at home, and I’ll put it in one of the rooms of the house for the first place entry for that week. Email me where she went, and you’ll be entered into a draw to win the The Sims 2 Teen Style Stuff Pack.

The contest is open to anyone but if you live outside of Canada and or the US you might need to pay shipping costs.
