Kellen Winslow enjoys getting his Browns jersey on draft day

Kellen Winslow II

Kellen Winslow is still in the hospital with an unknown illness. At least it is unknown to us, anyway.

Winslow missed a fourth straight practice Saturday morning. He was admitted to the Cleveland Clinic on Thursday for tests and evaluation after feeling ill for several days.

Team spokeswoman Amy Palcic says it’s unclear whether the Pro Bowl tight end will spend Saturday night in the hospital. She says there’s still a 50-50 chance Winslow will play Monday against the defending Super Bowl champions.

Unknown illness? It is not like Kellen Winslow needs more controversy in his life. Without even bringing up his college issues there is enough crazy stuff in his career to make it memorable.

Beginning with agent problems and draft problems right off the bat, you knew Kellen was going to be a problem.

In 2004 he broke his fibula and had to have 2 surgeries. He missed out on incentive bonuses worth 5.3 million bucks. Don’t you hate when you miss those 5.3 million dollar payments?

In 2005 Kellen had the motorcycle accident and missed the season. It was in his contract not to do such a thing and the Browns could have taken 4.4 million bucks from him, but they did not. Besides surgery for a torn ACL, he ended up with a 6 week staph infection.

In 2006 he came back and caught 89 balls . Still, he needed a little controversy so he drilled Steeler Linebacker James Farrior in the back during a game and was later called a fag by Joey Porter. This was not enough, though. He needed more knee surgery related to the motorcycle accident at the end of the season.

In 2007 Kellen Winslow seemed to finally turn it all around.

On December 18, Winslow was named as a first alternate for the 2008 Pro Bowl[5] On February 4, Antonio Gates of the San Diego Chargers announced he would not be attending the Pro Bowl due to injury. This paved the way for Winslow to make his first trip to the Pro Bowl.

He finished the season with 82 receptions for 1106 yards and five touchdowns.
