Vikings may want Brett Favre

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Oh, this would be so perfect. How could any fan of the North Division of the NFL ask for more? Brett Favre will soon get his release from the Jets and the rumor mill has Brett playing for the Vikings.

Now before we get into the perfect part, it is time for my rant about end of careers and baseball. Baseball? Yeah, baseball. You see, in my mind, as simple as it is, there is a great reason to have a designated hitter, no matter what Crash Davis says.

What do you believe in, then?
Crash Davis: Well, I believe in the soul, the cock, the pussy, the small of a woman’s back, the hanging curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Susan Sontag are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days.

The reason we have a designated hitter is to see the stars past their prime still whack a baseball. It does not tarnish their career. Why do fans feel if a player is not great to the bitter end they have tarnished their careers? That is nonsense. Let them play until nobody wants them. They can still be fun to watch and Brett Favre is fun to watch.

Will Brett Favre fall all over himself to become a Viking?

Will Brett Favre fall all over himself to become a Viking?

Now the perfect part. Read more

Aaron Rodgers 6 years 65 million

Coach Mike McCarthy is asking Aaron Rodgers for a loan

Aaron Rodgers is being asked for a loan by Coach Mike McCarthy

Wonder how Brett Favre feels about this one. The Green Bay Packers anted up 65 million dollars and signed Aaron Rodgers through 2014.

On Friday morning, Thompson and the Packers finished high stakes but quick negotiations that began during the Packers’ bye last week, and signed Rodgers to a lucrative contract extension through the 2014 season. Rodgers had one more year left on his rookie deal, but Thompson pulled the trigger after watching Rodgers grow the three previous years and then this offseason slide into the role as starter at the game’s most important position.

source

20 million was guaranteed and it seems that was because of the current salary cap for the Packers.

No details were available on the structure of Rodgers’ deal, but the Packers had about $20 million in cap room before signing him Friday, so they undoubtedly structured it to count significantly against that $20 million. They also are a decent bet to extend the contract of another player or two before the season ends — receiver Greg Jennings is a prime candidate, though others, such as safeties Nick Collins and Atari Bigby, are possibilities as well.

Tony Romo gets some advice on winning from Troy Aikman

Tony Romo and Troy Aikman

Just a quick thought.

Happened to be looking at quarterbacks in my Fantasy League.

What do all of these quarterbacks have in common?
Tony Romo
Philipe Rivers
Brett Favre
Drew Brees
Kurt Warner
Jay Cutler
Aaron Rodgers

Figured it out yet?

See if this helps.

Tony Romo 14
Philipe Rivers 14
Brett Favre 13
Drew Brees 12
Kurt Warner 12
Jay Cutler 12
Aaron Rodgers 11

Oh, now you have it. These quarterbacks have thrown the most touchdown passes. Their teams are also doing well, in some cases, quite well.

Ok, then explain Tennessee. Kerry Collins has thrown only 3 touchdown passes and has yet to pass for 200 yards in a single game. The Titans are 5 - 0.

Aaron Rodgers - How good is he?

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Aaron Rodgers has some hop in his step

Aaron Rodgers against LionsNow bear with me, because Aaron Rodgers was playing quarterback for the Green Bay Packers and they were running the same offense that they used to run with Brett Favre. That part is good.

The Packers had the same offensive line they have had for 5 years and they were solid, so the comparisons at quarterback could be valid.

There was only one problem. The Green Bay Packers were playing the Detroit Lions. Last week the Lions fell behind 21 -0 in the first quarter. This week it took until 6:47 of the 2nd quarter to fall behind 21 - 0. The Packers were feeling bad for their division rivals, so they held back a little.

Ahh, the Lions. As my best friend RonB says, “The Lions are even hard to watch in Hi-Def.” Or something like that.

Anyway, Aaron looked great, he really did.

Rodgers was 24-of-38 for 328 yards, three scores and a fumble in his first start on the road and his first fourth-quarter comeback.

“We just kept pushing the envelope and I think that speaks volumes about the coaches and everybody involved to have confidence with Aaron to stay aggressive,” coach Mike McCarthy said.

Greg Jennings caught six passes for 167 yards, including a 60-yard gain to set up Mason Crosby’s go-ahead field goal with 5:17 to go.

Donald Driver, James Jones and Jordy Nelson all had TD receptions from Rodgers.

“We have a lot of confidence that he’s going to find whichever one of us is open,” Jennings said.

source

Aaron showed good elusiveness when trapped and made good decisions with the ball. He could throw hard and accurate with the short passes, just like Brett Favre, only maybe not quite as hard.

Aaron did not look long as many times as Brett does, but when he did, he could make the throw and it was accurate. The Packer offensive line kept him out of any serious trouble, although he did have one ball knocked out of his hand.

If Aaron had played for anyone else the last few years, he might have started.

Aaron Rodgers even began to establish his own identity.

Rodgers took a step out of Favre’s shadow in his highly anticipated debut last week and moved closer to establishing his own reputation in his first road game.

After a three-and-out, he stepped up in the pocket to avoid a sack, scrambled to the right and threw a sharp pass in the end zone to Jones.

Rodgers looked right and threw left on the next drive for a 2-yard pass to Driver.

He perfectly lofted a pass to Nelson for a 29-yard score to give the Packers a 21-0 lead with 6:47 left in the first half.

Brett Favre is back with the Pack

August 4, 2008 by James Edwards

Favre is laughing now

Green Bay Packers v St. Louis Rams

Evidently the crow tastes really good in Green Bay.

Brett Favre came back to Green Bay on Sunday and will be given a chance to compete with Aaron Rodgers for the starting quarterback job.

Before you can say what the he…

Favre and Packers officials will meet Monday to discuss his return, but if the job is opened as expected, the stalemate between Favre and the team will have ended.

“This was the goal from Day 1, to play for the Packers,” a source close to Favre said Sunday.

Provided the team doesn’t alter course and trade Favre, the battle will draw enormous attention.

source

Of course, as much as we may laugh at Green Bay’s management prowess, it does not suck to have to take back a future Hall of Fame quarterback to your team. Not to mention, Brett had a pretty darn good year last year.

Barring a trade, the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre would have to be listed as the new favorites to win the North Division of the NFL.

The funny part, if there is a funny part here, is that the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings were the two teams that wanted Brett Favre the most.

Favre spotting does not worry Rodgers

Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers - here is something you probably won’t see this fall

Pittsburg Steelers v Green Bay Packers

Aaron Rodgers will be the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers.

The real question is if Brett Favre will be the quarterback for anyone besides the backyard barbecue football games with friends and neighbors. If he is, then how can someone like me get an invitation? Can you imagine Brett Favre throwing you the ball in a pickup game? Wow. It would rip the hands right off your arms and you would still be happy.

Anyway, Aaron will be the QB for the Pack.

Greg Jennings commented on Coach McCarthy’s Monday morning speech.

“It was short and sweet: ‘Aaron’s our guy. If Brett comes, we’ll handle it. But right now and for our future, Aaron’s our guy,’” receiver Greg Jennings said, recalling his coach’s words.

“We’re working with (No.) 12 and not (No.) 4. It’s the same as when we worked with Favre. Everybody has to support Aaron. That’s what it’s all about, coming together as a team and moving forward, and that’s what we’re trying to do.”

source

The Packer players admit they don’t know which quarterback would give them the best chance of winning.

At least one veteran player, linebacker Nick Barnett, acknowledged the possibility there could be a difference of opinion among players on the issue of which quarterback – Favre or Rodgers – gives the Packers a better chance to win. But Barnett quickly dismissed that as being a problem that could hamper team chemistry.

“I’m sure each particular guy may have their own opinions,” Barnett said. “But right now, it’s about whoever they choose, that’s who we’re going to roll with.”

All we know is that Aaron Rodgers will be taking the snaps once the season begins.

Bring back Brett Favre, now!

July 15, 2008 by James Edwards

Brett Favre must play!

This story just seems to drag on and on.

What are the Packers afraid of?

Why won’t the NFL step in and do something.

Ok, my unofficial poll has 80 million people wanting to see Brett play again and 5 not wanting to see him play again. All 5 work for the Packers.

Aaron Rodgers mom wants to see Brett eat soup and play again.

It just gets crazier and crazier.

All of this, naturally, brings us back to Brett Favre, who has turned what is normally a dead spot in the NFL season into a ceaseless Fourth of July fireworks display. As a football columnist and unabashed fan of real-life daytime drama, I have absolutely no problem with that, and unlike some others – say, Packers general manager Ted Thompson and Coach Mike McCarthy – I’m certainly in no hurry to see it go away.

It won’t anytime soon, thanks to interviews like the one Favre gave Monday in which he essentially accused the Packers’ power brokers of lying and insisted that they’ve told him he’s no longer welcome in Green Bay and that they hope to prevent him from playing elsewhere.

Brett Favre must play, if he wants to, unless he does not want to

Let the man play.

Hey, if Brett Favre changed his mind 400 times before the season started and missed all of training camp and all of preseason, the Bay Packers should still relent and let him play.

Why? Read Scenario I and Scenario II and you will see Why Brett Favre Must Play!

Scenario I - Ok, you turn on your 19″ TV and Aaron Rodgers is playing for the Packers against the Falcons. Your antenna is not bringing in the station real well and your fridge has no beer in it. What do you do? You watch for two minutes to see how he does and then you leave for the sports bar.

Scenario II - you flip on your large screen hi-def TV, settle into your man chair with your favorite beverage, and Brett Favre is suited up and taking snaps for the Green Bay Packers against the New England Patriots and Tom Brady. What do you do? You watch the whole freaking game, that’s what.

There it is, proof that Brett Favre should come back.

And what about these people that care about Aaron Rodgers?

There’s already questions about Aaron Rodgers and his health. Can he stay healthy? Would Brett come back if he can’t?

What if the Packers start the season 0-4? Would it even get that far before the Brett questions come up? Would it take three games? Two?

Rodgers seemingly is in a no-win scenario when it comes to opening night. He’s penciled in as the starter against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football. It should be a showcase for the guy.

Instead, it’s Brett Favre Night.

Big deal, you followed the legend, you most likely will fail. Don’t let it bother you. Think of the good side. No matter how much you stink, you will be quickly forgotten. On the other hand, if you do well, the fans will still call for Brett Favre.

Brett Favre, please come back

Brett Favre says it is all rumors on his return to the NFL

The rumors have started that Brett Favre is coming back.

ESPN reported that an unidentified Packers source said the 38-year-old Favre told coach Mike McCarthy in the past two weeks that he has the itch to play.

“The Packers have no reaction,” team spokesman Jeff Blumb told The Associated Press.

Favre’s agent, James “Bus” Cook, didn’t return a message seeking comment. Packers general manager Ted Thompson and McCarthy were on vacation.

Favre retired March 6 after a 17-year career.

source

Even Al Harris, the Packer’s cornerback said Brett would come back. Al then added a little to spice it all up.

“Aaron is our quarterback,” Harris said. “Brett’s retired. But if he wanted to come back, there would be some guys who wouldn’t mind it. I would welcome him back with open arms.”

Don’t look now, but Brett will lose his consecutive game streak, plus the 12 and a half mill per year they were paying him.

Aaron Rodgers, the heir apparent, has had enough of all the Brett talk.

“I don’t feel I need to sell myself to the fans,” he said in the article. “They need to get on board now or keep their mouths shut.”

Not the best way to get the ball rolling, heh?
