Gosder Cherilus is thinking “No more chokeholds”

Hey my Lions are at it again.
They seem to be the ultimate in bad character judges. Is Cherilus a bad character? Maybe not, but that did not stop him from getting in trouble and trouble seems to be the norm with the Lions.
Remember Charles Rogers? He was caught using drugs in a test at the combines. Did not stop the Lions from taking him, though.
While celebrating his 23rd birthday at a bar, Gosder was trying to get rid of an unruly patron.
Cherilus and teammate DeJuan Tribble, stars at Boston College, were celebrating Cherilus’ 23rd birthday with teammates at a bar last July when they intervened in a confrontation between a patron, Sean Maney, and a State Police sergeant, Joseph Boike, a part-owner of the place.
Maney testified in Boston Municipal Court that Cherilus grabbed him in a two-arm choke hold and dragged him across the room while Boike and Tribble repeatedly punched him, according to the Boston Globe. Maney testified that he and Cherilus slammed into a table, that he lapsed in and out of consciousness, that Cherilus and Tribble kicked him, and that he suffered a spinal injury that required surgery.
The judge ordered Gosder to pay 52 thousand dollars for medical bills.
The Lions kept it up this week with another surprise problem.
This week, it was revealed rookie linebacker Jordon Dizon, the Lions’ second-round pick, was arrested six days before the NFL draft on suspicion of drunk driving, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and failure to provide insurance.
It never ends with them.
Anyway, let’s hope the Gosder Cherilus really is a good guy and a good football player.
Cherilus has the football character coach Rod Marinelli wants and fills an immediate need. He is a big, tough, strong lineman with a mean streak who likely can step in and start at right tackle, a position that caused problems for the Lions last season.

Bears Cedric Benson arrested

Cedric Benson can’t run from his problems and lately can’t run

The Chicago Bears seem to have more problems at running back than they thought.
Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson was charged with failing a sobriety test while operating a 30-foot boat, then resisting arrest before being hit with pepper spray and dragged ashore by officers.
Benson faces charges of boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest after the incident Saturday night on Lake Travis, Travis County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Roger Wade said Sunday.
Benson was released from jail early Sunday on a $14,500 bond. The charges are class B misdemeanors, each punishable by up to six months in jail and a $2,000 fine. A call to Benson’s agent was not immediately returned.
Cedric now has two other problems, besides the arrest.
1. lack of production.
The 25-year-old has done little since the Bears took him with the fourth pick of the 2005 draft.
As a rookie he couldn’t beat out Thomas Jones and rushed for 272 yards in nine games. He was more effective the next season while sharing time with Jones, going for six touchdowns and 647 yards.
Last year, Benson took over as the featured back after Jones was traded away. He rushed for 674 yards, four touchdowns and 3.4 yards a carry before going on injured reserve in November.
In three years with the Bears, Benson has rushed for 1,593 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 3.8 yards a carry. He’s also missed 13 games.

2. The Chicago Bears drafted Matt Forte from Tulane in the second round to compete at running back. He is 6′ 2″ and 222 pounds.
Pick Analysis:The Bears get a player to compete with Cedric Benson for carries. Forte was the focal point of the opposing defense every week and still put up numbers. He’s a high-character guy and will have a chance to upgrade the running game in Chicago.
Look out, Cedric!

Bengals cut Chris Henry

Hey, you’re a Bengal.
5 arrests.
What is the big deal?
Chris Henry Cincinnati Bengals or used to be anyway
Evidently, Chris Henry forgot about the Bengal 5 and out policy.
Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chris Henry lost his job while in jail awaiting arraignment on assault charges on Thursday.
The Bengals cut him after his fifth arrest since 2005.
An attorney for Henry, 24, entered not guilty pleas for him after Henry was accused of punching an 18-year-old man in the face and breaking his car window with a beer bottle.
Municipal Court Judge Bernie Bouchard set bond at $51,000 on charges of misdemeanor assault and criminal damaging. Noting Henry’s previous arrests involving drugs, guns and alcohol, the judge called Henry “a one-man crime wave.” He ordered electronic monitoring if Henry makes bail.
Seems like Chris was just one of the club.
Under the NFL’s tough new policy, Henry could face further suspensions even if he is not convicted of the latest charges. The Bengals were among the worst offenders in recent years, with 10 players arrested in a 14-month span from April 2006 and June 2007.
Guess Carson Palmer will have to just throw to the other two talented receivers, Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

Darren McFadden - speed forgives all
February 25, 2008 by James Edwards

There are questions about Darren McFadden.
The question about his speed has been answered.
Darren ran a 4.33 40 at the NFL combine.
That is blazing!
He did not wear spikes and he did not appear to be stressed. McFadden looked like he could run 4.33’s all day.
Turns out, Darren had an injury in High School that prevented him from doing squats in college. At age 20, he will only get stronger, more powerful, and maybe faster!
The speed answer makes some of the other questions less important. That is the way it works.
That’s what a 4.33-second time in the 40-yard dash will do at the NFL scouting combine. It doesn’t just turn heads, it turns opinions. In short, the notion that McFadden’s two arrests for fighting and some other more minor issues will get in the way of him being one of the top picks may have disappeared as fast as he ran. source
Not to be cynical, but hey, sounds typical for pro sports, doesn’t it?
Your gallivanting author has discussed McFadden’s troubles before.
Now the jockeying will begin to get that top draft pick and go after Darren McFadden.
For McFadden, speed has forgiven all transgressions.
