Tom Brady missing is not the only Patriot problem or is it?

Matt Cassel tries to fill the void left by Tom Brady
The Patriots were seemingly invincible last year. Did you know that there were times the Patriots went for it on fourth and short with big leads just to practice certain plays. They did not kick the field goal, because they did not need it. How is that for feeling your oats?
But let’s go from the oat field to the Moss on the tree. Randy Moss was beating the unbeatable Jerry Rice touchdown record for receivers last year and this year Matt Cassell can’t even seem to find Randy anywhere on the gridiron.
The Giants blew up the Patriot offensive line in the Super Bowl, but face facts, the Giants blew up everyone’s O line on the way to the NFL Championship trophy. Now the Patriots must still be seeing those Giants pouring through the line, because they can’t stop anyone.
And the offensive line — manhandled in Super Bowl XLII and pushed back in the AFC title game — has already allowed nine sacks in three weeks after giving up just 21 during all of the 2007 regular season.
source
So Tom Brady is not throwing the football.
Randy Moss is not catching the football.
Even Laurence Maroney is hurt and not running the football.
The offensive line is like a bad hockey goalie (sieve).
Now the defense even allowed Miami 461 yards. (Yeah, those Dolphins gained all those yards.)
The common wisdom would say the Patriots have problems all over the place, but do they really?
Tom Brady, hmm, what would it be like if just Tom came back?
Ok, Tom Brady would be passing the football and Randy Moss would be catching a whole lot of those passes. It would not do anything about healing Maroney up, but the Patriot running attack works because you have to defend Brady.
Tom makes quick decisions and can throw the accurate short ball. Oddly most QBs cannot throw the short one accurate. That ability to escape and still make the throw would improve the offensive line tremendously.
As for the defense giving up tons of yards, if Tom can get the offense moving and give the Patriots field position, then the defense would give up fewer yards.
Hey, we solved everything.
Wait a minute, that was the Dolphins that gained all those yards right? That was the Dolphins delivering that beat down on the Patriots. Weren’t they 1 - 15 last year?
Didn’t the Squibster tell you? The Patriots have all kinds of problems.

Goodbye Tom Brady and Hello Tony Romo - Power Rankings

Tom Brady walked away without the Power Rankings
Oh what a great day. Not that Tom Brady getting hurt is a good thing. Injuries never are.
But to see the Patriots drop out of the top spot of the Power Rankings is almost as good as seeing them lose to some team like the New York Giants. Oh, that’s right, they did that already. Well, this day just gets better and better.
And as for Matt Cassel, well, give me a break. Who is this guy anyway?
The Cowboys are now listed as number one and that makes Tony Romo the man. Just ask Jessica Simpson.
1 DALLAS COWBOYS Last rank: T2 Total points: 378
Notes: Week 1 rarity: A preseason favorite that looked good. (Seven first-place votes)
2 N.Y. GIANTS Last rank: 4 Total points: 368
Notes: After new deal for Plax, will champs’ distractions subside? (Five first-place votes.)
3 PITTSBURGH STEELERS Last rank: 8 Total points: 345
Notes: Willie Parker won’t yield to Rashard Mendenhall anytime soon.
4 NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS Last rank: 1 Total points: 309
Notes: Disaster strikes. Can Pats salvage playoffs without Tom Brady?

The Giants living off of last year’s glory are holding onto the number two spot. Will that last? Hmm, have my doubts.
The Steelers are back in the playoff picture and holding onto the number 3 spot. Again a precarious position.
My Lions, hold your breath, tied for 30th with the Kansas City Squaws, just edging out the St. Louis Billy Goats. After the pasting they took from the Falcons, they are lucky to still be in the league.

Tom Brady hurts knee and fans feel pain

Tom Brady walks off with knee injury. There was no further update
Is it easy to be a Patriot fan or what?
Tom Brady hurts his knee and leaves the game and they still win the game 17 - 10 over Kansas City.
The Patriots have been lucky that Brady has not been hurt more often. Most quarterbacks are…
Tom Brady has started 128 consecutive games, which, frankly, is beyond fortunate. No one knows today when he will start the next one because the greatest fear of every Patriots fan - not to mention the owner, the coach, and Brady’s teammates - was realized in the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs at Gillette Stadium when the whistle blew and Brady failed to get up.
In marches Matt Cassel and leads the Patriots to victory over the Kansas City Chiefs and helps Randy Moss secure his place in the NFL list of great receivers.
Cassel was impressive on his first possession, starting at his 2. With a third down at the 1, he threw a 51-yard completion to Moss.
“We had them deep into their territory,” defensive tackle Glen Dorsey said, “but they made a good play.”
Eight plays later, Cassel and Moss hooked up for a 10-yard touchdown and a 7-0 lead.
It was Moss’ 126th touchdown, tying Jim Brown for eighth most overall, and 125th on a reception, tying him for fourth in NFL history.
Yeah, the fans were hurting, but as you can see it is easy to be a Patriots fan. They rarely feel any pain.

Tom Brady caught streaking

Randy Moss is asking Tom Brady if he is starting this week against Kansas City
Will Tom Brady start against Kansas City in the opening game for the New England Patriots?
Wait, what about the streaking thing?
The answer to both questions is… yes he will start to keep his streak of starts, which is third all time for NFL quarterbacks.
No matter the percentage, all signs point to Brady extending his playing streak to 128 games, third most in history among NFL quarterbacks. Only Brett Favre (275) and Peyton Manning (173) have longer streaks, and both are still going on.
Now Bill Belichick does not like to have Tom Brady just say that. There are secrets to be kept.
The secretive Belichick deflected a question about whether last season’s NFL MVP would start Sunday.
“We will give you the injury report on Friday,” he told reporters Monday. “We will give you the practice report after we practice.”
Brady didn’t want to anger a coach who tells his players not to reveal too much injury information. So he wouldn’t estimate how close to 100 percent he was health-wise.

New England Patriots trouble on special teams

Willie Andrews, backup cornerback for the Patriots, is in trouble again

Image details: New England Patriots v Buffalo Bills served by picapp.com
We all wait and watch for trouble in Patriot land. We are happy even when a special teamer gets in trouble. The Patriots do everything right so often, it just feels kind of good when something goes wrong.
In February, Andrews was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and driving an unregistered motor vehicle. In May, he admitted in court that there was enough evidence to convict him at trial but did not plead guilty.
In the latest incident, Andrews’ girlfriend told police he waved his arm and the gun he was holding touched her temple, Miliote said. Police were called at 1:39 a.m. and Andrews was arrested about three hours later. About five hours after his arrest, at 9:45 a.m., the gun was found next to a trash receptacle by workers near the complex in which Andrews lived, Miliote said.

New England Patriots stolen Spy Video
June 9, 2008 by James Edwards
Filed under New England Patriots, Randy Moss, Tom Brady
The funny thing is how this is played out. Don’t know about you, but my version was where they stole the signals to input the defense from another game or practice and then knew the basic defense the other team would be in on each play. The Patriots are so good offensively they could then exploit the other team at will.
Wouldn’t it be much better if this was how it really happened!
Still don’t get why the New England Patriots had to do this. They are so good on offense and have a future Hall of Fame quarterback in Tom Brady and so efficient on offense, that it just… just does not make any kind of sense to me. Wouldn’t the players want to really win it without cheating? Can someone please explaiin this to me?

Patriots let cheerleader explain spygate

Yesterday you saw how the Walsh guy somehow had pictures of the San Diego Charger Cheerleaders in his Spygate tapes. That was part of the whole New England Patriots spying on other NFL teams thing. Seems the Walsh guy could not help himself.
As an equal opportunity Cheerleader picture shower, it was felt by your author, the upstanding and not defensive signal calling stealing writer, that you would like and explanation from the New England Patriot cheerleaders, Denver Bronco cheerleaders, and the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders. What do they have to say about Spygate?
Those Patriots are such devils!

Image details: New England Patriots v Minnesota Vikings served by picapp.com
How could they steal those signals?
It was like they had something behind their backs!

Tom Brady to Randy Moss - “Hey, you going to stay a Patriot?”, “Yeah, think so”
The secret is out; Randy Moss did in fact look around and still stayed with the Patriots.
The Eagles were hot after Moss when in fact they knew him to be a long shot deal. Randy ended up taking a 3 year deal from the Patriots for 27 million bucks.
Philadelphia first contacted Moss either late Saturday night or early Sunday. The Eagles offered Moss a $15 million signing bonus as part of a four-year, $36 million package. But they knew the only way they would beat out New England for his services was to blow the Patriots completely out of the water. Ultimately, the Patriots stepped up their offer and obviously Moss accepted. source
Moss will be going into his 11th year of Pro football and that is one long career for a wide receiver.
He has racked up 12,193 yards of receiving with 124 touchdowns. Amazing, simply amazing.
But at this stage of his career, he would rather have Tom Brady and the New England Patriots taking him for a ride to the Super Bowl and a possible ring.
They came oh so close last year, until the final drive by Eli Manning and the New York Giants.
Now that Peyton Manning has won one, Eli Manning has won one, and Brett Favre is seemingly not coming back to win one, it is time for Tom Brady to connect with Randy Moss and pick up one more Super Bowl Ring.
There is no need to go into all the hoopla usually surrounding Randy Moss, because none of it happened with the New England Patriots. Just listen to the coach-speak from Coach Bill Belichick.
“What Randy did for our team last year was outstanding,” Patriots coach Bill Belichick said in a statement. “He is one of our most consistent, competitive and team-oriented players and it is undoubtedly a relationship we are excited to continue.”
It appears that Moss, Brady, and the Patriots will be together for at least 3 more years and that is a very deadly combination.
The Rolling Moss is no more. The Patriot Moss is here to stay.
NFL Football Fan Question Is there any question that the Patriots manage their cap space the best in the NFL?

Bill Belichick cheats? It just gets worse

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Ok, we have to go back to 2002.
It is the eve of the Patriots vs. Rams Super Bowl.
The Rams are a two touchdown favorite.
Lo and behold, the Patriots spring the upset.
No problem, they just got hot, right?
No, they cheated.
What is with this team? They just keep cheating and cheating.
Something has to be done.
Walsh, now a golf pro in Maui, did video work for the Patriots when they won the first of their three Super Bowls after the 2001 season. Three weeks ago, the Boston Herald reported, based on an anonymous source, that someone taped the practice before the Patriots’ 20-17 upset of the Rams, who were two-touchdown favorites. source

Top Ten in the Draft, Team needs

Today we examine the Top Ten draft picks.
Michael Pitzer at USAToday will be our guide.
The Squibster will comment in italics.
Matt Ryan - The new face of the Dolphins?
1. Miami Dolphins -
Expect plenty of subterfuge from the Dolphins during the next two months; you’re better off not believing anything you hear from them. General manager Jeff Ireland threw open the door for a trade when he told the NFL Network at the Senior Bowl, “We’re open for business.” The Dolphins, who drafted John Beck in the second round a year ago, need to make a decision at quarterback. If they don’t like Beck or their options in free agency, then Boston College’s Matt Ryan would make sense. If not, look for Miami to go for defense. source
Isn’t it odd how Miami football and basketball have fallen on hard times. You can read about NBA Basketball at NBAObsessed, my other blog, but suffice it to say that Pat Riley has a plan to rebuild the team in 1 year after losing the Shaq. Does Bill Parcells have a plan? Well, most likely, but he has not told me in person, yet.
My guess is they go for Matt Ryan, even though that would go against conventional logic for building a team. (You build the lines first) Miami needs a new face and QB Matt Ryan could provide that face. Add in the fact that Bill Parcells believes in the quick turnaround. He has pulled it off himself, before. Logic still dictates trading down.
2. St. Louis Rams - Michael says no to the QB, and uses the level of health to determine whether they go for Jake Long, Virginia defensive end Chris Long, or LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey.
Make it Jake Long, you can’t go wrong.
3-5 (order to be determined by coin flip). Atlanta Falcons - Ryan or Arkansas running back Darren McFadden.
McFadden, with no QB, Atlanta will need some kind of run game.
3-5. Kansas City Chiefs - The Chiefs Read more
