Brett the Jet, Favre that is

Brett Favre is a New York Jet
Good bye Chad Pennington. We hardly knew you or better yet, we knew you were not as good as Brett Favre.
Today the Jets signed Brett Favre and released Chad Pennington.
This was a fabulous off season for the Jets.
Coming off a 4-12 season in 2007, the Jets had already spent approximately $140 million in the offseason, counting all-pro guard Alan Faneca, Pro Bowl fullback Tony Richardson, emerging linebacker Calvin Pace, former Pro Bowl defensive lineman Kris Jenkins and tackle Damien Woody among their haul. They also drafted Ohio State pass rusher Vernon Gholston with the sixth pick of the draft and traded back into the first round — courtesy of Favre’s former team, the Green Bay Packers — to snare Purdue tight end Dustin Keller.
New York’s maneuvers clearly signaled the franchise was focusing on its immediate future much more than its long-term future.

Brett Favre may go to the Bucs

Could Brett Favre be playing football in the sunshine next year? Would Deanna Favre be happier?
The Squibster is after the all time record for writing about Brett Favre or maybe just an invite to the house on Thanksgiving. Only this year it looks like he won’t be torching my Lions.
Favre’s career with the Green Bay Packers is all but over after two days of extended meetings with coach Mike McCarthy and General Manager Ted Thompson, so the sides turned this afternoon and evening to possible trades for the quarterback.
Thompson is remaining firm about not trading Favre to NFC North Division rival Minnesota, and Favre appears unwilling to try to leverage that deal by staying at training camp.
So the subject has turned to the two teams that have shown keen interest in acquiring Favre for more than a week now, Tampa Bay and the New York Jets.
source
To Tampa Bay? What does that say about how much they like Jeff Garcia? Didn’t he take them to the playoffs?
To the New York Jets? Ok, it is only Chad Pennington and crew. This one is different. The Jets really improved their lines and now would love to have a QB of Brett Favre’s stature.

Vikings did not tamper, Goodell clears them

Brett Favre feels the Vikings pain
Commissioner Roger Goodell, the Sheriff of the NFL, ruled that the Minnesota Vikings did not tamper with Brett Favre. The contact made by Minnesota did not violate any rules as reported by CBS Sports NFL online
This one has me really perplexed. The commissioner said there were conversations between Minnesota and Brett Favre, but that neither of them was offering a job or services.
Ok, so Brett called up the Vikings and said, “Hey how is the weather up there?” And the Vikings said, “The wind is blowing our way.”
Brett asked, “If desert is served how does it taste?” The Vikings responded, “It is really really rich!”
Brett asked, “What about Tarvaris Jackson? How is he doing?” The Vikings responded, “Oh, we are thinking of buying him a new clipboard.”
Is that how that works?
One gets the feeling that the NFL would like to be done with the Brett Favre mess and move on.
Still it would have been fun to see Brett Favre and Adrian Peterson on the same team.

Brett Favre is back with the Pack

Favre is laughing now
Evidently the crow tastes really good in Green Bay.
Brett Favre came back to Green Bay on Sunday and will be given a chance to compete with Aaron Rodgers for the starting quarterback job.
Before you can say what the he…
Favre and Packers officials will meet Monday to discuss his return, but if the job is opened as expected, the stalemate between Favre and the team will have ended.
“This was the goal from Day 1, to play for the Packers,” a source close to Favre said Sunday.
Provided the team doesn’t alter course and trade Favre, the battle will draw enormous attention.
Of course, as much as we may laugh at Green Bay’s management prowess, it does not suck to have to take back a future Hall of Fame quarterback to your team. Not to mention, Brett had a pretty darn good year last year.
Barring a trade, the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre would have to be listed as the new favorites to win the North Division of the NFL.
The funny part, if there is a funny part here, is that the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings were the two teams that wanted Brett Favre the most.
Why Brett Favre may be a Viking

Here is Brett Favre against the Vikings. Could he soon be for the Vikings?
And in the middle ring, the Green Bay Packers! See how they duck and dodge and try to get away from the Favre.
On one outside ring, the Minnesota Vikings! See how they watch every move by Brett Favre and just drool.
On the other outside ring are the Packer fans. Funny. They are splitting into two groups. One group is called Anti. The other group is called Pro.
This is the 3 ring circus created by Brett Favre. Hey, here come the clowns, there is Roger Goodell, Mike McCarthy, Aaron Rodgers, and others.
If the NFL reinstates Brett Favre, he will show up for camp. That has the Packers panicky.
As recently as Monday, there appeared to be no way the Packers would give Favre what they suspect he’s wanted all along: A one-way ticket to Minnesota. Packers general manager Ted Thompson said earlier this week that he would not consider trading Favre to an NFC North division rivals.
But with Favre poised for reinstatement and potentially ready to show up in Green Bay on Friday to turn training camp into a circus, team officials might be willing to do just about anything. There were multiple reports Wednesday night that the team had offered to pay Favre up to $20 million to stay retired.
The Milwaukee Sentinel Journal has reported that there have been internal discussions on trading Brett to the Vikings.
Once Favre is reinstated, the Packers have 24 hours to decide whether to cut him or add him to their active roster. The Packers also could trade him, but such a deal is unlikely to happen unless Favre says he will report to his new team.
It is widely believed Favre would be willing to play for the Vikings. In filing tampering charges with the NFL against the Vikings two weeks ago, Packers officials expressed a belief that Vikings coaches had inappropriate contact with Favre - and interest from the Vikings was the main reason behind Favre’s last-minute desire to return.
With the lack of quarterbacks in the North Division, does the team that gets Favre win the Division?

Packer President visits Favre?

Is it me or did Brett Favre lose some weight?
Mark Murphy is President of the Packers, whatever that means. Anyway, he went to Mississippi to talk Brett Favre out of coming to the Green Bay Packers training camp.
Roger Goodell is the Commissioner of the NFL. We know what that means. He did nothing on Brett Favre’s request for reinstatement. Roger wants them to work it out on their own.
Should Roger reinstate Brett, things get a little dicey.
Nearly five months after his tearful retirement news conference in March, Favre filed for reinstatement with the NFL on Tuesday. He now is awaiting approval from Goodell.
Once he is reinstated, the Packers will have 24 hours to release him or return him to their active roster. The team has ruled out releasing Favre, fearing he would immediately sign with division rival Minnesota.
The Packers also could trade Favre, although no deal appeared imminent. The Packers hold Favre’s rights until his contract expires after the 2010 season.
No way would the Packers want to see Brett go to Minnesota and then make the playoffs.
If you are wondering how the Packer team would feel about Brett coming back to the team, then read what Donald Driver has to say.
Wide receiver Donald Driver, one of Favre’s few remaining close friends on a roster full of young players, seemed skeptical that Favre’s position with the team would really be much different.
“He’s going to have the same role he’s always had,” Driver said. “He’s always been a leader in this locker room, so I don’t think that’s going to change. Like I said, you guys are worried more about the issue than we are. We know what he’s going to come in and do. He’s always been a leader in the locker room, he’s going to continue being the leader.”

Brett Favre faxes NFL for reinstatement

Brett Favre with Momma Favre at the ESPY’s
Brett has made the move.
Once Favre is granted reinstatement — a step considered a formality, but one that wouldn’t be forthcoming until Wednesday at the earliest — the Packers will have 24 hours to release the star quarterback or return him to their active roster.
If Goodell reinstates Favre on Wednesday, his return to the practice field for the Packers would most likely come Friday. The team does not have a scheduled public practice Thursday.
“It’s obviously the first step in Brett coming back, but we’ll deal with that when Brett is reinstated and have a plan for that when he comes back,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said after practice Tuesday afternoon.
The Packers have Brett Favre’s rights until 2010.
Maybe now is the time to work a trade to get Brett as far away from Green Bay as possible? Think about it Packers.

Favre spotting does not worry Rodgers

Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers - here is something you probably won’t see this fall
Aaron Rodgers will be the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers.
The real question is if Brett Favre will be the quarterback for anyone besides the backyard barbecue football games with friends and neighbors. If he is, then how can someone like me get an invitation? Can you imagine Brett Favre throwing you the ball in a pickup game? Wow. It would rip the hands right off your arms and you would still be happy.
Anyway, Aaron will be the QB for the Pack.
Greg Jennings commented on Coach McCarthy’s Monday morning speech.
“It was short and sweet: ‘Aaron’s our guy. If Brett comes, we’ll handle it. But right now and for our future, Aaron’s our guy,’” receiver Greg Jennings said, recalling his coach’s words.
“We’re working with (No.) 12 and not (No.) 4. It’s the same as when we worked with Favre. Everybody has to support Aaron. That’s what it’s all about, coming together as a team and moving forward, and that’s what we’re trying to do.”
The Packer players admit they don’t know which quarterback would give them the best chance of winning.
At least one veteran player, linebacker Nick Barnett, acknowledged the possibility there could be a difference of opinion among players on the issue of which quarterback – Favre or Rodgers – gives the Packers a better chance to win. But Barnett quickly dismissed that as being a problem that could hamper team chemistry.
“I’m sure each particular guy may have their own opinions,” Barnett said. “But right now, it’s about whoever they choose, that’s who we’re going to roll with.”
All we know is that Aaron Rodgers will be taking the snaps once the season begins.

Brett Favre - forget the legacy, let him play

Brett Favre getting an award for being Brett Favre

What is it with people? You fans that get bummed because a old veteran that had a sparkling career and just wants to keep playing, even if he is not very good anymore, have got to get a life.
If Brett wants to play, why should he not be allowed to play? He still has to make the cut, get a contract, all the usual things. If he does this stuff then why are YOU worried about his all time stats suffering?
Hey, just don’t pick Favre for your fantasy league quarterback, if it is bothering you.
And you fans that insist a great player must stay on the same team better remember Brett was on Atlanta’s team.
That still does not stop you, does it?
There is something very unsettling about the image of Brett Favre wearing a uniform that doesn’t belong to the Green Bay Packers.
There’s also something unsettling about the soap opera that’s playing out between Favre and the Packers.
Still you persist.
In a perfect world, Favre stays retired. He is among those athletes who should be associated with one team. When you think of Ted Williams, it’s in a Red Sox uniform. The same with Bill Russell and the Celtics or John Elway and the Broncos.
There’s something special about that, and there’s something terribly wrong picturing Favre in Carolina blue, Minnesota purple or in any helmet that doesn’t have a G on the side.
Guess what, YOU are not Brett Favre.
Brett Favre is Brett Favre. He can do what he wants. He can change his mind if he wants.

Brett Favre must play!

This story just seems to drag on and on.
What are the Packers afraid of?
Why won’t the NFL step in and do something.
Ok, my unofficial poll has 80 million people wanting to see Brett play again and 5 not wanting to see him play again. All 5 work for the Packers.
Aaron Rodgers mom wants to see Brett eat soup and play again.
It just gets crazier and crazier.
All of this, naturally, brings us back to Brett Favre, who has turned what is normally a dead spot in the NFL season into a ceaseless Fourth of July fireworks display. As a football columnist and unabashed fan of real-life daytime drama, I have absolutely no problem with that, and unlike some others – say, Packers general manager Ted Thompson and Coach Mike McCarthy – I’m certainly in no hurry to see it go away.
It won’t anytime soon, thanks to interviews like the one Favre gave Monday in which he essentially accused the Packers’ power brokers of lying and insisted that they’ve told him he’s no longer welcome in Green Bay and that they hope to prevent him from playing elsewhere.
