Jon Kitna - Lions deliver low blow

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
My Lions stink. How could they just take Jon Kitna and throw him aside?

Jon Kitna’s career in Detroit takes a knee

Jon Kitna takes a kneeNo, Jon is not the short term answer to quarterback and he is not the long term answer, but there is a way to handle things and the Lions don’t know about that way. The Lions went with a gutless low class way. The put Jon on IR, basically shelved him for the season and implied he is done forever as a Lions.

Hey, thanks for nothing.

Oh, Jon had a bulging disc and needed some rest, but felt he could play last Sunday. If the coach, Rod Marinelli, does not want to play him, then fine, don’t play him, but why throw him out? Couldn’t he have helped with the young QB’s?

Sometimes the thought crosses my mind that Jon had it out with Jim Colletto, the offensive coordinator. Don’t have any proof of that, but this whole thing stinks.

Obviously when things aren’t going well, and things haven’t been going well for the Lions, changes are going to be inevitable. Typically the first person to get changed is the quarterback position. They way things were handled, it just seemed to me that, you know okay, we were thinking about making a change anyways, and this, all this does is really expedite the process and give even more reason for us to be able to go ahead and do this. That would be fine with me, I wouldn’t like it, but I could understand it. I know how the business is. The problem that I have is that is not what was communicated to me. It was more of, you’re hurt. Yeah, I got hurt in the game but I had the same thing last year but I pushed and could have played in the preseason game.

Detroit Lions 80 -1, get your Super Bowl tickets now!

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
80 to 1?

So that is like saying there is a chance, right?

If they play 80 seasons then the Lions would win it all 1 time? One time? Really? That is awesome!

Can they play 80 seasons next year, because we have waited for like forever, you know?

That would only be 1,280 games. That is a lot of Ford Truck ads for the Ford Family. Not that anyone buys a truck anymore with 4 buck per gallon gas.

Jon Kitna will pass in a more balanced attack now that Coach Mike Martz is gone

We could win, because the offense is more balanced.

Offense - Jon Kitna is a veteran QB and will get the starting nod when the 2008 season kicks off because of it. But if his play heads south, don’t be surprised if the Lions start developing Drew Stanton, a second round pick last year. Without Mike Martz calling the shots, we can expect a much more balanced attack under new coordinator Jim Colletto.

That running attack will be led by…by, oh you know who, uh, well by whoever shows up.

Oddly, the balanced attack will lead to a better passing attack, star receiver Roy Williams and star in the future Calvin Johnson will not have to put up with deep safeties on every down. The Mike Martz offense of last year passed on almost every down.

The defensive line is weak at every position and that is hard to do. The linebacking? It is bad, except for Ernie Sims.

The defensive backfield will be much improved.

The Lions secondary has pathetic in 2007, allowing opponents to complete 70.1 percent of their passes. This was not helped by a defensive line which was not able to put enough heat on the QB either. An infusion of new players such as cornerbacks Leigh Bodden and Brian Kelly and safeties Dwight Smith and Kalvin Pearson should improve this unit.

The Jimmy Boyd prediction is to have the Lions finish fourth in a four team division.

But don’t forget, one time in the 80 seasons of next year the Lions will win it all!
