Cedric Benson can’t run from his problems and lately can’t run

The Chicago Bears seem to have more problems at running back than they thought.
Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson was charged with failing a sobriety test while operating a 30-foot boat, then resisting arrest before being hit with pepper spray and dragged ashore by officers.
Benson faces charges of boating while intoxicated and resisting arrest after the incident Saturday night on Lake Travis, Travis County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Roger Wade said Sunday.
Benson was released from jail early Sunday on a $14,500 bond. The charges are class B misdemeanors, each punishable by up to six months in jail and a $2,000 fine. A call to Benson’s agent was not immediately returned.
Cedric now has two other problems, besides the arrest.
1. lack of production.
The 25-year-old has done little since the Bears took him with the fourth pick of the 2005 draft.
As a rookie he couldn’t beat out Thomas Jones and rushed for 272 yards in nine games. He was more effective the next season while sharing time with Jones, going for six touchdowns and 647 yards.
Last year, Benson took over as the featured back after Jones was traded away. He rushed for 674 yards, four touchdowns and 3.4 yards a carry before going on injured reserve in November.
In three years with the Bears, Benson has rushed for 1,593 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 3.8 yards a carry. He’s also missed 13 games.

2. The Chicago Bears drafted Matt Forte from Tulane in the second round to compete at running back. He is 6′ 2″ and 222 pounds.
Pick Analysis:The Bears get a player to compete with Cedric Benson for carries. Forte was the focal point of the opposing defense every week and still put up numbers. He’s a high-character guy and will have a chance to upgrade the running game in Chicago.
Look out, Cedric!

Adrian Peterson - Injured but will return

Adrian Peterson, the rushing phenom for the Minnesota Vikings, heard some good news about the knee he injured against the Packers.
Shortly after a series of tests beginning Monday at 9 a.m., however, Peterson found out the relatively good news: His knee had remained mostly intact in an awkward collision with Green Bay cornerback Al Harris in Sunday’s 34-0 loss to the Packers. The only damage was a torn lateral collateral ligament, an injury that will sideline him for this Sunday’s game against Oakland but not much longer.
Athletic trainer Eric Sugarman said the injury does not require surgery and could heal sufficiently enough for Peterson to play Nov. 25 against the New York Giants. Sugarman emphasized that Peterson “absolutely, without question” will play again this season.
“He’s very lucky that this is all he has,” Sugarman said. “He’s going to be fine.”

Adrian Peterson - break it down

Adrian is hot.
He is the favorite for rookie of the year right now.
You wonder, if the Vikes were any good, would he be up for MVP?
Oh, yes, that one game of 296 yards made an incredible impression on everyone.
Now let’s not get carried away. It is what it is, but consider the fact that Edgerrin James was 19th on the all time rushing list coming into this year with 10,385 yards and he is still playing.
Edge has 618 more this year.
Adrian leads the league with 1,036.
San Diego is 22nd in the league in defending the rush giving up 4.7 yards per game. This is not to diminish Adrian’s performance in that one game, only to give it some perspective. Read more

From Sooners to Vikings, Adrian is off and running
Adrian Peterson is a Viking and a very good running back. He also happens to be a rookie and usually not a whole lot of praise is heaped on a rookie.
Oh, you get the “He looks good”, and the “He is fast/quick/big/strong/smart” stuff, but usually a rookie is fantastic if he can just have a normal year.
You see, it is a huge adjustment to go to the Pro’s.
Still, Adrian Peterson is earning his praise.

Larry Johnson - this is just all too weird

Odd, most of the time Larry carries the Chiefs with his carries, but it appears that the Chiefs are carrying Larry
Larry Johnson set an NFL record for carries last year with 416. Larry did this while the Chiefs were struggling with their offensive line and their quarterback was knocked out for almost half the season with a severe concussion.
The result was a stellar 1789 yards and 17 touchdowns. (Squibster full disclosure - Last year Larry was the top dog of my Fantasy Football Team)
Now those were rough circumstances and the Chiefs were still able to make the playoffs. Larry put the team on his back and they rode him home.
The dream ended in the first round of the playoffs, yet Larry knew he would be rewarded. Read more
