Shaun Rodgers with a 66 yard interception

The Detroit Lions rid themselves of Shaun Rodgers.
Shaun is a former All Star, what gives?
Shaun was a player that could seemingly do anything from defensive tackle spot, except play all the time. He only played when he wanted to and that frustrated Coach Rod Marinelli, so the Lions got rid of him.
Will Shaun shed his bulk and be an All Star at Cleveland? Doubtful, but let’s wish him the best.
Check out this YouTube of Shaun Rodgers running back a 66 yard interception against the Denver Broncos.
Every year was a melodrama with Shaun. Will he lose all the extra weight? Will he play hard?
One year he was suspended for most of the year for using diet drugs in the summer. Later that year he had to have surgery, because his knee was banged up and he was so overweight it was killing him.
At times, Shaun played at an All Star level and no one could run up the middle. At times, Shaun played even harder and would blow up double teams to get at the quarterback. He was a master at blocking field goal attempts.
But too many times Shaun just loafed and that is why he is gone.

Is Kitna predicting 10 Lions victories again?
May 10, 2008 by James Edwards
Filed under Coach Rod Marinelli, Detroit Lions, Offensive Coordinator Mike Martz
NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Jon Kitna is at it again. He is calling for 10 victories, but for a different reason.
No, Jon is not crazy. Well, maybe a little, he did agree to play for the Detroit Lions. Nobody made him do it.
This year Jon is calling for 10 victories, because that would mean they are in the playoffs and that would mean they are more than competitive. That would mean a very successful season for the team.
Just as he did last off-season — and again earlier this year — Kitna said Tuesday that the Lions should not accept less than 10 wins. The team went 7-9 in 2007.
“Our expectation is we will be disappointed if we don’t win 10 games,” he said after the Lions’ first Organized Team Activities practice in Allen Park. “Because that will mean we’re not in the playoffs and that (stinks). I can’t make it any simpler than that. Anybody who says that’s not their expectation level is, unfortunately, not very much of a competitor.”
Ok, all that scoffing has to stop right now. The Lions will be better and even though that does not always translate into more victories, Jon believes it will.
Let’s take a look at their schedule.
Sun 9/7 at Atlanta 1:00 pm
Sun 9/14 Green Bay 1:00 pm
Sun 9/21 at San Francisco 4:05 pm
bye
Sun 10/5 Chicago 1:00 pm
Sun 10/12 at Minnesota 1:00 pm
Sun 10/19 at Houston 4:05 pm
Sun 10/26 Washington 1:00 pm
Sun 11/2 at Chicago 1:00 pm
Sun 11/9 Jacksonville 1:00 pm
Sun 11/16 at Carolina 1:00 pm
Sun 11/23 Tampa Bay 1:00 pm
Thu 11/27 Tennessee 12:30 pm
Sun 12/7 Minnesota 1:00 pm
Sun 12/14 at Indianapolis 1:00 pm
Sun 12/21 New Orleans 1:00 pm
Sun 12/28 at Green Bay 1:00 pm
Certainly playing in a division without any other proven quarterbacks, now that Brett Favre is gone, has to help.
There are also games with non powerhouse teams like Atlanta, Houston, Carolina, and Washington.
Certainly a lot of winnable games on the schedule, but what Detroit Lions team will we get? Gone is Mike Martz and the least fabulous show on Earth and in its place is a running offense without a tailback. Ouch.
Gone is the on again off again Shaun Rodgers from defensive tackle with more emphasis on speed and youth.
This will be Coach Rod Marinelli’s team to live with or die with.
Good Luck, Jon Kitna, on your attempt at 10 victories.

Reason #106 why Cleveland Browns lose
April 21, 2008 by James Edwards

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Actually, credit for the above title goes to my friend and sometimes devoted Lions fan, RonB.
RonB is an expert on the Lions, so he knows why the Browns stink.
His actual title was Reason #106 why Cleveland hasn’t had a winning team since the Lions had a winning team. Now that is not altogether true, because Cleveland had a pretty good year last year, but then they have nothing to show for it.
Oh, and reason #106 is extending Shaun Rodgers contract. They should have just increased the training table budget.
The Browns also extended his contract from three years to six years, despite his reputation for allowing his weight to balloon to 400 pounds.
“The thing we know about Shaun is he has tremendous ability for a big man,” Crennel told the News-Herald (Ohio). “The other thing I know, and I’ve seen happen, is guys when they have a change of scenery, a different program, their attitude and perspective changes.

Hey, good luck on that one. Shaun ate so much his knees struggled to hold him up and his endurance went to zero.
With thoughts of big juicy steaks on his mind, Shaun Rodgers lumbers into the backfield

Rodgers can be one dominant player, but he often looks like two.
That was a joke, looks like two, overweight, you get it.
So based on former glory the uninspiring Shaun Rodgers will get a contract extension.
As said before, Good Luck on that one.

Dallas Cowboys want Roy Williams of the Lions

No, no, no.
Roy Williams is going nowhere.
Wait a minute that would be the Detroit Lions are going nowhere.
The Dallas Cowboys would love to trade for Roy Williams, but Coach Rod Marinelli says he is not on the trading block.
“I’m like the dad sitting at the doorway,” Marinelli continued. “Nobody’s dating my daughter. Nobody’s coming in. Just no. He looks fabulous right now. He’s in that position for having a tremendous year, I think. So, just no.”
Is there anything that could change the Lions’ mind? The Cowboys have two first-round picks. What if they offer the Lions the 28th overall pick straight-up for Williams?
“No,” Marinelli said. “I just think for our team right now, where we’re at, we need his presence. He’s one of our leaders. He can be a guy that’s going to be special for us.”

Roy Williams just wants the ball
Funny thing, not too long ago Roy spoke out about how Calvin Johnson will turn out to be better than him. As Roy put it, why stay if my prodigy is going to be better.
Hmm, somehow the Lions will find a way to bungle this one.
NFL Football special comment No Kevin Jones, No Shaun Rodgers, No Damien Woody, these were supposed to be the bright stars. Can Roy be far behind?

Jon Kitna predicts 10 wins again

Jon Kitna does happy dance move. Predicts he will Dance with the Stars to victory
The Detroit Lions.
Does anymore need to be said?
Last year Jon Kitna predicted 10 victories. We laughed.
When asked about the prediction, Jon admitted that they may win more. We laughed harder. Who needed the comedy channel?
This year Jon predicts, you got it, 10 victories. Do you laugh or order the straight jacket?
“Last year was not a prediction, it was a statement of fact that if we didn’t win 10 games, we would be disappointed, and I would say that would still hold true this year,” Kitna said. “We will be disappointed, but we’re going to be a better football team.” source
Let us see, they are missing a few linemen. Oh, well.
The running back is Tatum Bell, the guy that told them last year to trade him. Ouch.
They cut their defensive end. Who needs two of them anyway?
Three of their linebackers signed elsewhere. Hey, they were popular!
Do we need to hear it again? Maybe Jon Kitna was predicting world peace and we mis-heard it?
“We will be disappointed to not win 10 games because, as I’ve said, to not win 10 means you’re not in the playoffs. That’s why we play. So that’s the same expectation level we’ll have this year. source
They cut one of their corners and expressed disappointment in the other. Is this called cutting corners? Don’t we all do that?
They signed several over the hill former Tampa Bay players. You gotta like Bucks…er Bucs.
They traded their former All Pro Defensive Tackle. He ate too much at the training table. Others were starving.
They play 7 teams that made the playoffs.
Ok, counting the victories, 1, 2, 3, 4…uhh, 5 maybe?
