Jets pony up the dough for Faneca

5 years and 40 million bucks for left guard Alan Faneca.
Yep, a left guard.
Oh, and toss in 21 million semolians in guarantees.
For a left guard.
This building the offensive line thing has gotten out of hand.
The New York Jets felt desperate, obviously very desperate.
New York sorely needed a standout left guard after trading Pete Kendall to Washington following a bitter contract dispute before last season. They plugged in the since-released Adrien Clarke, who was ineffective while starting the first 14 games and was benched the last two weeks.
Faneca will step in between left tackle D’Brickashaw Ferguson and center Nick Mangold to give the Jets a terrific left side. Ferguson and Mangold thrived as rookies with Kendall, but struggled at times without his veteran influence last season. source
Ok, he is a 7 time pro bowler, but come on, 21 mill in guarantees? For a left guard? It is not like he is the missing piece to the NFL Championship or something. This is the Jets.
Remember last year my Lions made Cory Redding the highest paid defensive tackle and Cory went on to do nothing. Nothing.
Maybe the Jets are just deal happy. They made a lot of other deals, too.
The Jets have been active in the two days since the free agency period began. In addition to signing Faneca, they acquired three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kris Jenkins from Carolina, traded linebacker Jonathan Vilma to New Orleans for a draft pick, signed defensive tackle Sione Pouha to a contract extension and signed fullback Stacy Tutt to an exclusive-rights contract.
Thomas Jones
Even with Thomas Jones, the ex-Bear, at running back the Jets could not mount a running attack. They blamed the offensive line and opened up the check book.
A left guard.
A Jets spokesman declined comment on the signing of the seven-time Pro Bowl selection, considered perhaps the league’s best left guard.

Lance Briggs a Bear for life

After all that talk last year of holdouts and forced trades and not liking the Bears anymore.
After all that talk of leaving the Bears, because they franchise tagged him.
After all that talk of not even coming back for any games at all and wanting to be the man on a different team.
After all that venomous talk, Lance Briggs shouts “Show me the Money”.
Free-agent linebacker Lance Briggs re-signed with the Chicago Bears, agreeing to a six-year deal Saturday.
The Bears didn’t disclose financial terms of the deal, but the Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune both reported Saturday that Briggs would receive $36 million. source
Kind of be careful where you air your dirty laundry.
Briggs had a great year last year with 140 tackles and also crashed his Lamborghini in the middle of the night in August.
Man, don’t you hate crashing your Lamborghini?

Zach Thomas has the Linebacker look
New England is making an offer for Zach Thomas, the 7 time pro-bowler let go by Miami.
Zach has had concussion issues recently, but still can play at a high level.
The Patriots continue to make great decisions.
Last year it was Adalius Thomas.
(Who is left? Isiah Thomas? Danny Thomas?)
The New England Patriots met with free-agent linebacker Zach Thomas at Gillette Stadium today. The meeting went well enough that the Patriots made an undisclosed offer to Thomas. source
The Patriots just continue to reload.

Asante Samuel - Show me the money

Asante Samuel does the happy dance, and why not, he has 100 million reasons

After the 80 million dollar deal for Nate Clements last year, the sky is the limit for the New England Patriots Asante Samuel.
Word has it, if you look a little deeper, there was some contract problems with Nate and it is now considered a 7 year 64 million dollar contract. Whatever.
What is does mean is that Asante Samuel will benefit from the raised bar. Good corners are hard to find.
Samuels has the words “Get Rich to This” tattooed on his left shoulder and get rich he will.
In fact, the Patriots cannot franchise him either, because they did that last year, so Asante is an unrestricted free agent just like you and me, only he is a great cornerback and teams want to give him a whole lot of money.
We could be talking a 100 million dollar deal!
Believe me; a number of other corners are watching this deal go down with great interest.
That fact was of keen interest to a number of players in action Sunday. The Denver Broncos’ Champ Bailey, once the highest paid cornerback in the league, wants to see what Samuel is offered and accepts. Cornerback Marcus Trufant, who is likely to be franchised by the Seattle Seahawks this month, is interested. Finally, budding star Antonio Cromartie of San Diego, who has the size, speed and skill to be the best of all of them, could be talking to the Chargers about an extension in the next couple of years. source
Yes, show me the money!
You have to wonder how this will affect the salaries for all positions in the NFL.
NFL Football Fan Question Which team is going to fork over the big cash for Asante Samuel?

Randy Moss is 30, Tom Brady is 30 , will they be champions?

Raiders? No Way. It was all their fault. Hey, your looking at the greatest player ever!
Going into the off season the Patriots were loaded to the gills. After blowing a huge early lead to the Colts in the playoffs, the New England Patriots have developed that killer instinct again. They want to win it all.
The off season comes and New England begins to fill the few holes they had on their team.
Adalius Thomas was added to a pretty good, but getting older linebacking crew.
Donte Stallworth, ever the deep threat, was added to an anemic receiving crew. Wes Welker was also added to that crew, and also, to be a return man. Throw in the additions of Kyle Brady and Kelley Washington and you have all the makings of an excellent receiving corps.

Brett Favre - will he part ways with the Packers?
The Moss trade to New England may be the final straw.
It appears that Brett Favre wanted Moss bad enough to offer part of his salary to cover a guaranteed part of Randy Moss’s salary.
You must want someone bad, if you are giving up the cash!
The talk is that Randy was willing to rewrite his contract to fit in with the Pack. Read more
