Roy Williams never touched the weights

How is it the Roy Williams can play for Texas and the Detroit Lions and never lift weights? Crimony, my wife lifts weights and she can catch a football. Lucky for Roy, she doesn’t try out for the Cowboys. This story just makes no sense at all. Aren’t these football teams?
“I’m serious,” King quoted the guy. “Roy never lifted before. Now that he has, and now that he’s serious about making himself a great football player, especially with T.O. gone, I think he’s really going to have a good year.”
Think about that. Williams played at Texas and for the Lions, and neither required him to do any weight training?
You know Roy has great hands and while with the Lions he was often their only hope, their only threat on the field, until Calvin Johnson came along, but no weight program? Man, if you are not happy that Marinelli is gone from the Lions after hearing that, then you are just plain crazy.
Roy must lift the plates!
Here is hoping that the new number one Dallas Cowboy receiver, Roy Williams, lifts some weights and has a great year!

Cowboys strike it rich!

The Dallas Cowboys have a new stadium and plan on making an extra 90 million bucks!
Roy Williams cannot believe all those high priced seats
The Cowboys will have some premium priced club seats that could win them the triple crown of football franchising. They could become the most profitable franchise, the most revenue producing franchise, and the most valuable franchise.
The real revenue magic, year after year, is in the 15,000 club seats that didn’t exist at Texas Stadium and in the 300 suites, which can hold an additional 12,000 or so fans. Together, these premium areas make up more than a third of the base capacity at the new stadium and account for more than two-thirds of the team’s estimated revenue gains. Suite capacity at Texas Stadium was about 7,500.
At $340 a game, the club seats potentially can generate up to $50 million a year in new ticket revenue, some of it shared with the rest of the league and some of it used to pay off a league loan used during stadium construction.

Roy Williams not impressing Troy Aikman

Troy Aikman thought that getting rid of Terrell Owens was a good deal for the Cowboys. Now he is beginning to wonder about the Roy Williams deal.
Even Roy Williams wonders when you will see the real Roy
How bad can my Lions be when their arguably second best player is traded to the Cowboys and can’t even get on the field? Ok, the answer is not a mystery. The Lions are pretty darn bad.
When asked to clarify his thoughts, the former Cowboys quarterback didn’t hold anything back.
“I just think that when you have the chance to evaluate a player to the degree the Cowboys were able to and then to give up what you gave up, if he’s not a No. 1 receiver and not a highly productive player for this team, that’s a huge flaw within their scouting department,” Aikman said.
…The Cowboys sent three 2009 draft picks — a first-, third- and sixth-rounder — to the Lions for Williams just before the trade deadline on Oct. 14. In a way, the trade also cost them Terrell Owens, whom Jones released after the season partly because of the investment in Williams.

Terrell Owens, rent a receiver, to the Bills
March 7, 2009 by James Edwards
Filed under Buffalo Bills, Dallas Cowboys, NFL Football, Terrell Owens
The Bills decided to rent Terrell Owens for a year.
The 35-year-old Owens caught 69 passes for 1,052 yards and 10 touchdowns last season with Dallas. But the Cowboys were looking to improve the atmosphere in the locker room and decided they would be better off without him.
“I’m leaving America’s team (for) North America’s team,” Owens said at a news conference.
No one doubts Terrell’s talent. He has more catches in the last 3 years than the much heralded Randy Moss. Owens has 6 Pro Bowls and 9 1,000 yard seasons in 11 years. He is the real deal.
The Bills must be out of their minds. Terrell will end up destroying Bill’s quarterback Trent Edwards. The Bills must be more than desperate. Remember, this is the team that looked to the city of Toronto to save them, so maybe Terrell is just there to drum up ticket sales.
Roy Williams can talk

If Terrell Owens leaves the Cowboys Roy Williams is ready to step in.
“Say what now?” Williams said with a smile. “What kind of question is that?
“Yeah I can be the No. 1 guy. I’ve always been the No. 1 guy. I’ve never been the No. 2 guy, ever in life.
“That’ll be a role that I’m used to.”
Yeah, after all he caught all of 1 touchdown last year.

Marion Barber in trouble with Jerry Jones

Marion Berber
So what did Marion Barber do to draw the ire of Dallas Cowboy owner Jerry Jones?
Marion did not play with an injured toe.
“His toe is good enough to play,” Jones said. “We can support that toe and he can come play. He’s just not comfortable playing. … I don’t know if it’s going to be any different than it was this week.”
Jones said he expected Barber to play all week and was shocked the running back did not travel to Pittsburgh on Saturday.
“He can play with that injured toe,” Jones said. “He can play with the soreness and a combination of those things. I see nothing that led us to believe he couldn’t.”
Coach Phillips said Joes was not questioning Barber’s toughness.
So what the heck was he doing, if not questioning Barber’s toughness?
Man, you gotta love Jones as an owner. He is never satisfied and there are no sacred cows. Jones speaks and my guess is that Barber will be just a whole lot more motivated to play and play now.

Tony Romo is out until mid November

Tony Romo and Brad Johnson sitting on the sidelines

The pinkie is holding back the Romo.
Tony Romo announced he is out for longer than earlier thought. Brad Johnson will take over.
Romo said he was confident he could at least serve as Johnson’s backup last week at St. Louis but in pregame warmups he realized he could not catch a snap and throw quickly. Romo said the pain was not an issue.
“I wasn’t physically able to get my fingers on the ball in position to throw it,” Romo said. “I needed time to get the ball in my hand. I couldn’t figure out a way to make it happen.”
He is not sure how much or if he will be able to practice this week.
The Cowboys have lost 2 games in a row and are behind the Giants and Redskins in the East Division of the NFC.
They host Tampa this Sunday and then visit the Giants the following Sunday, before having a bye week. The Cowboys cannot afford to lose many more games and make the playoffs.
Side Note: My Lions picked up the Dallas first round pick for next year in the Roy Williams deal. At least that pick is looking better every week.

Brees, Rivers, Romo, and touchdowns

Tony Romo gets some advice on winning from Troy Aikman

Just a quick thought.
Happened to be looking at quarterbacks in my Fantasy League.
What do all of these quarterbacks have in common?
Tony Romo
Philipe Rivers
Brett Favre
Drew Brees
Kurt Warner
Jay Cutler
Aaron Rodgers
Figured it out yet?
See if this helps.
Tony Romo 14
Philipe Rivers 14
Brett Favre 13
Drew Brees 12
Kurt Warner 12
Jay Cutler 12
Aaron Rodgers 11
Oh, now you have it. These quarterbacks have thrown the most touchdown passes. Their teams are also doing well, in some cases, quite well.
Ok, then explain Tennessee. Kerry Collins has thrown only 3 touchdown passes and has yet to pass for 200 yards in a single game. The Titans are 5 - 0.

Roy Williams is a Cowboy
October 14, 2008 by James Edwards

Sometimes Roy Williams made impossible catches, even one handed circus catches

My Detroit Lions finally did something. They traded Roy Williams to the Cowboys. Good for Roy. The losing must have been too much.
Can’t say Roy was universally liked by the fans, but at least he had some spunk at times that was sorely lacking on this team.
The Cowboys have coveted the Texas product for some time, while the Lions denied looking to deal Roy away, but this is not the Matt Millen Lions any more.
For months, the Lions had said they are not shopping Williams. As recently as Monday, general manager Martin Mayhew said he had not made calls about Williams and had told Williams that.
But the Lions have always maintained that they would listen to offers for Williams, as they would any other player, and Mayhew allowed Monday that a “very interesting” offer could get a deal done.
source
The Lions stockpiled some much needed draft picks for the new General Manager by getting a 1, 3, and 6 pick and supposedly giving up a 7.
The Cowboys may have a deal in place with a reworked contract for Roy. If not, he is a free agent and it will cost them. Don’t worry, Jerry Jones has a way of getting things done.
Roy is seen as a possible long range replacement for Terrell Owens.
Mike Furrey or Shaun McDonald will most likely get the start in place of Roy Williams for the Lions. Both of them are possesion type receivers.
Looks like a win win deal for everyone.
Jason Campbell & Clinton Portis - Redskins beat Cowboys

Jason Campbell came out on top against Dallas, even when sacked by Chris Canty of the Cowboys

All the questions were answered and all the answers said that Washington will be good this year. Jim Zorn, the new coach, is making a difference and Clinton Portis and Jason Campbell are making plays.
Washington 26 Dallas 24
Jason Campbell threw two touchdown passes and Clinton Portis ran for 121 yards, leading Washington to a 26-24 victory Sunday that gave the Dallas Cowboys their first loss and made the toughest division in the NFL even more interesting.
The Redskins came in with consecutive wins since a lousy performance in the opener, but there were still questions about how good they were. Going on the road to beat one of the most talented teams in football certainly improves their perception. For now, at least, Washington has turned the NFC East into a four-team race.
“It feels good watching our players take these strides,” Zorn said. “The football team believes in what we’re doing and that feels good.”
Cowboys cry
In the toughest division in the NFL, the Washington Redskins beat the Dallas Cowboys in a huge early season game.
The Washington Redskins just had it working and the Cowboys did not.
You just love to hear the whining from the so called America’s team. It seems everything just went wrong…
Like the Cowboys’ run defense allowing Clinton Portis to pick up 121 yards on 21 carries after stifling Cleveland, Philadelphia and Green Bay.
Like Tony Romo being pressured too often – although not sacked – despite the absence of the Redskins’ best pass rusher, Jason Taylor.
And like a 12-men-on-the-field penalty – after a Redskins timeout – that not only wiped out a potential third-down stop but allowed the Redskins to eat away more than three minutes before Shaun Suisham’s 29-yard field goal with 3:22 to play forced the Cowboys to try the aforementioned onside kick.
Jason Campbell
It was a great day for Jason Campbell and the fans let him know it. The much maligned quarterback is King in Washington right now. No bailout was needed while Jason was on the field.
As a large group of Redskins fans converged at the railing atop the tunnel at Texas Stadium, Campbell stopped to chat before joining Washington’s latest locker-room celebration, thanking them for their support throughout the biggest victory of his career. It appeared the appreciation was mutual.
The crowd continued to chant his name as he disappeared beneath them, a fitting ending for Campbell after his strong performance in the first half helped propel the Redskins to an impressive victory against their biggest NFC East rival in front of 63,462.
