Quinn Pitcock mysteriously quits Colts

Quinn Pitcock #97 tells Ed Johnson #99 that millions of dollars don’t mean anything

Indianapolis Colts v Oakland Raiders

Why did Quinn Pitcock retire after 1 year?

After much deliberation and careful thought, Quinn resolved to retire from the NFL,’’ Brad Leshnock, Pitcock’s agent, said in an email to The Star late Tuesday. “He notified the Colts of this decision last week.

The guy was young and he was playing on a great defense.

The 6-foot-2, 299-pound Pitcock was injured early in training camp last season, but was healthy enough to play in nine games. He made 30 tackles and became a bigger part of Indianapolis’ defense after former league sacks champion Dwight Freeney went down with a season-ending foot injury in November. The Colts allowed the fewest points in the NFL (262).

Theories abound, but what is the truth?

Does anyone out there know?

He was playing. Dungy is returning, and with Peyton Manning, they had a chance to win it all. What gives?

Manning vs. Manning, Colts vs. Giants

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

Peyton Manning and Eli Manning - two of the best in the business

Now how cool would a New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts Super Bowl with brother against brother be?

Now that would be Super!

Peyton is working hard to get the Colts back to the Super Bowl. There is that one little obstacle called Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Still Peyton works on. He is busy breaking down each pass that he threw last year. Yes, the best can get better.

But getting back to that Peyton vs. Eli thing.

When asked about a potential Manning Super Bowl duel, Peyton says in that easy, Louisiana drawl of his, “That’s certainly the plan.”

Eli told a College Hall of Fame luncheon crowd recently that it would be cool to keep the Lombardi Trophy in the family.

And what better way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Baltimore Colts-New York Giants 1958 NFL championship game than with a Colts-Giants Super Bowl with the brothers vying for the crown?

“That’s what’s been talked about here,” Colts coach Tony Dungy says.

“When you think about the 2008 Super Bowl, if a Colts-Giants meeting did happen with the Mannings playing quarterback and how big that would be … for selfish reasons, we’d like to do our part to make it happen.”

Gruden critiques Lions moves

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
The Detroit Lions have made numerous moves in the off season to get back into contention. Some other coaches were asked about the moves.

Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden, on cornerback Brian Kelly and safety Kalvin Pearson: “Kelly’s a hell of a player. If he stays healthy, he’s a dominant player, in my opinion. We’ll miss Kalvin Pearson a lot. He was an excellent special teams player. Excellent. He can play safety if you give him a chance.”

Lions hope Brian Kelly dominates at cornerback

Pittsburgh Coach Mike Tomlin, a former Bucs coach also liked the Kelly deal. Mike likes the Dwight Smith at defensive end deal, too.

Cleveland Coach Romeo Crennel calls safety Leigh Bodden a player that can play both man to man and zone.

Listen to New Orleans Coach Sean Payton.

on linebacker Alfred Fincher: “With Alfred, we had moved on because we had other players at the position. He’ll be very tough and diligent. He’ll work hard. He’s big. He’s strong. I like him. In the end, we had kind of gone through that process of evaluation and moved on to the next player.”

Finally, Indianapolis Coach Tony Dungy chimes in on linebacker Gilbert Gardner, saying Gilbert is explosive, smart, and a hard worker.

Hmm, they all sound like Rod Marinelli type of guys. All of them are being handed golden opportunities and all of them have their strengths.

Is this the coaching fraternity being nice to Rod or have the Lions actually made some good off season moves?

Time will tell. Good luck, Rod.

NFL Football special comment Rod needs these players to perform or he will be shown the exit door.

Patriots, Giants, and Dolphins talk draft

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.

JaMarcus Russell - very expensive number 1 pick

Jamarcus RussellBuild your lines.

Get your quarterback.

That is the plan.

The plan can take you to the Super Bowl.

It seems simple, but it is not. This is the formula that the New England Patriots followed, as well as the New York Giants, and San Diego Chargers. Green Bay was a little different, because 38 year old Brett Favre has been around much longer than any of the linemen.

In order to follow this plan, you need a great talent evaluator.

That person has to be backed up and believed in by the organization. Usually it is not a coach, because coaches have a tendency to watch a game and get excited about some player they have to have.

Usually the talent evaluator becomes the most important person in the management team.

“The No. 1 key for a successful franchise — even more important than the owner and head coach — is an outstanding talent evaluator,” says former Dallas Cowboys coach Jimmy Johnson, now an analyst for Fox, who won two Super Bowls in the 1990s with Dallas while laying the groundwork for another Cowboys crown. source

These are not men that are out on the front lines reaping headlines, but there value is unmistakable. Read more
