Drew Brees - N.O. puts a pasting on Packers

51 points.
That is a lot of points.
Try this byline for Drew Brees:
20 of 26, yeah he only missed on 6 passes.
4 touchdown passes.
157.5 quarterback rating, nobody knows what that means, but it is ridiculously high.
Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers coughed up 3 interceptions.
Sideline note on my Lions - They mentioned on Monday Night Football that my Lions will not win the North Division (Packers are still in it). They also came to the brilliant conclusion that the Lions will not win the Super Bowl.
Statistical Oddity - Saints are last in the South Division. The Monday Night crew was picking Green Bay to come back and win the North Division.
Drew Brees and Kurt Warner are on pace to eclipse Dan Marino’s single season passing yardage record of 5,084 yards.

Deuce McAllister doping

Reggie Bush and Deuce McAllister
The Deuce doping? Say it ain’t so. With Reggie experiencing knee problems, this is not the time for Deuce to be in trouble.
Those positive tests mean that all three likely will miss four consecutive games each at some point in the near future.
The reports of the positive tests for McAllister and Smith originated early Friday with Fox 31 television in Denver, which quoted “a highly placed NFL source” as saying that McAllister and Smith were among six to 10 NFL players who tested positive. Many of them — including McAllister and Smith — tested positive for a weight-loss diuretic and possible steroid-masking agent called Bumetanide, according to the Denver report.
Drew Brees better keep up his hot passing!

Is Shockey to Saints what Moss was to Patriots?

Jeremy Shockey will limp on over to the Saints

served by picapp.com
The New York Giants have traded disgruntled Jeremy Shockey to the New Orleans Saints, thus reuniting him with first year coach Sean Payton.
“I am excited to join the Saints as they have expressed interest in me,” Shockey said in a statement released by the Saints. “I have had a relationship with Coach Payton and I appreciate what he has done as a head coach. The Saints have a lot of weapons starting with Drew Brees, and I look forward to joining my teammates at training camp. This will be a fun year.”
The Saints agreed to send their second- and fifth-round picks in the 2009 draft to New York in exchange for Shockey, whom they have been coveting since the start of this offseason.
Randy Moss
Hmm, Randy Moss was coming off one of his worst years when joining the Patriots. Randy was a known locker room problem and the Patriots did not know what to expect. You know what happened…
On the field, Moss had one of the greatest seasons of any wide receiver in recent history. He racked up 98 catches for 1,493 yards and an NFL Record 23 touchdown receptions. The Patriots knew they had to get him the football to keep him happy and that’s what they did.

Jeremy Shockey is also coming off a bad season filled with injuries. He, too, has been a locker room problem. Could Jeremy be just as successful for New Orleans with Drew Brees passing to him as Randy was for the Patriots?
Well, nobody knows for sure, but Jeremy is excited and New Orleans not only gets a pass receiver, but a great blocker, too.

Patriots Tom Brady ho hum another award

All right another award…uhh, go team go!
No, really it was, because of teammate Randy Moss. You remember Randy, the guy who gave up in Oakland.
Tom threw for 50 touchdowns. Think about that for a moment. A great year has a QB throwing for about 25 to 28 touchdowns. Tom did about double that.
Hey, Peyton threw for 48 just a few years ago in a season to be remembered forever. Well, forget about it. 50 is the new 48.
All Randy did was break Jerry Rice’s single season receiving touchdown record. Randy Moss had 23 and Jerry Rice only had 22. No big deal, it was only Jerry Rice, the guy the practically invented the multiple touchdown game.
Maybe if Randy had caught all 50 of Tom Brady’s touchdown passes, then he could have won the award.
The voting was a little one-sided.
And it’s been a rewarding season for Brady, the first New England player to be chosen MVP and now the first Patriot to win Offensive Player of the Year. He collected 35 and a half votes to 12 and a half for Moss. Wes Welker, the Patriots’ other starting receiver, got one, as did Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre. source
Wes Welker got as many votes as Brett Favre? Uhh, what is that all about? Who is more valuable on offense, Wes or Brett, Wes or Randy, Wes or Tom? Geez, come on.

Reggie Bush injured

The return of the Squibster. Now the good and the bad. The good is that my most excellent boss and coworkers filled in quite nicely and that is most appreciated.
The bad is the Squibster is diagnosed with Cancer and undergoing chemotherapy. Fear not, they say the cancer is one that is curable, so let us move forward with our dreams of football!
Reggie Bush has failed to run away from the NFL
The Saints may be upset, but the NFL is really upset. Reggie Bush is injured and may not play in the Monday Night Football game.
Reggie Bush has a partially torn left knee ligament that likely won’t require surgery but could sideline him for Monday night’s game at Atlanta.
Saints coach Sean Payton said Bush would be listed as questionable on the injury report and added whether Bush plays will be a game-time decision.
“We’ll monitor where he’s at,” Payton said after Friday’s practice, which Bush sat out. “I’m still hopeful for this weekend’s game. source
Since the game is against Atlanta, a major part of the marketing would have been to see Reggie Bush.

The return of Reggie Bush
Reggie Bush, Mr. Everything at USC, and the number 1 pick of the New Orleans Saints, the surprise division winner last year, has yet to make the impact that was predicted for him.
Some, less than knowledgeable fans are even ready to write Reggie Bush right off the ticket.
Those same fans got an awakening Sunday night as the Saints rolled over the Seahawks in Seahawk land 28 to 17.
Sometimes the fans forget that Read more

Peyton says the bar has been raised
Why does it seem like there are a handful of great quarterbacks and a large bunch of mediocre quarterbacks?
Ok, great ones.
Tom Brady, no doubt. Accurate as all get out. Rarely leaves the pocket.
Peyton Manning, no doubt. Quick reads. Strong and accurate. Makes big plays.
Brett Favre, some doubt, because he is getting older and has to carry around the NFL record book.
Michael Vick, wait a minute, the NFL wanted him to be great, but he had other ideas.
We thought maybe Marc Bulger or Drew Brees after last year, but it is just not working out that way.

Tip the Pizza boy? No Way!
What a very different season of NFL Football is on top of us this year.
The surprises are everywhere to be had or to be bad.
Patriots are great, no surprise.
Colts are great, no surprise.
So where are the surprises?
San Diego
The bad?
Well, try Norv Turner and the Chargers. The new coach is struggling to put it all together and LT is not getting his carries and not getting many touchdowns.
But the season is long and even though many of us have our doubts about Norv Turner, the coach could turn it around and in fact, they seem to be heading towards an easier stretch in their schedule.

Rex struggles
You have to admit that sometimes the best part of the NFL season is all the surprises that take place.
Your intrepid author could not even begin to guess at some of this stuff.
It appears that the Chicago Bears are going to replace Rex Grossman with Brian Griese.
OK, that one could be guessed, even though the Squibster is a supporter of Rex Grossman, based on the fact that Rex has started very few games in his career. Oh, he will never be Peyton Manning, but Rex can be effective.
The Bears were hoping Grossman would play the way he did the first five weeks last season and ditch the inconsistency he showed the rest of the way.
Well, he is more consistent.
The problem is “Bad Rex” keeps lining up behind center, and that’s bad news for the Bears.
