Donovan McNabb more money

It is a love hate affair in Philadelphia as they restructure Donovan McNabb’s contract for the next two years.
McNabb and the Eagles agreed late Thursday to restructure the final two years of his contract instead of extending his current deal. McNabb will collect $24.5 million over the next two seasons, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. That’s a $5.3 million raise over two years.
“Both sides wanted to get something done,” coach Andy Reid said. “We thought it needed to be done. Donovan warranted this. There are very few players or situations where a player is far enough along in his career, and then his contract, where he warrants something like this. We felt Donovan was in that situation.”
The Philadelphia Eagles have a chance to win it all. Their team is that good and so is Donovan, but he just never seems to last through the season. Twice this guy has been my Fantasy Football quarterback and twice he was ripping up the league only to fall to season ending injuries.

Donovan McNabb is all smiles with more money
Donovan has so much talent that you just keep thinking he will put it all together, stay healthy, and deliver the title to the Eagles. That is why Philly was willing to ante up the extra money and pay him.

NFL Playoffs Squibkick predictions

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Arizona Cardinals over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Philadelphia Eagles have the more complete team and a rejuvenated Donovan McNabb. The Cardinals have Larry Fitzgerald. Kurt Warner is having the season of the ages and at an old football age. Changed my mind on this game over and over.
Pittsburgh Steelers over the Baltimore Ravens.
The battle of two great defenses, but Pittsburgh has the more experienced quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, and more offensive weapons.
Sensible people do not bet money on Squibster’s predictions. Please be a sensible person and do not bet money on my predictions.

Donovan McNabb is surrounded

What do you make of Donovan McNabb?
Words like mercurial come to mind.
Questions why all that talent has failed to produce a Super Bowl victory come to mind.
Doubters wanted to get rid of Donovan, pretty much every year of his career. How would that make you feel?
Can there be more to it than that? Yes, there can and there is. Donovan McNabb needs to have other players around him.
This brings up the great build-a-team debate and how it all works. The theories are endless, but when you get down to it, there is no denying that having a very talented, cool as a cucumber, quarterback is an asset not to be denied. Hmm, Kurt Warner comes to mind.
Now that we have established that a great quarterback is a good thing and aren’t we smart, then the next thing is that the most talented, cool as a cucumber, quarterback cannot do it alone. He needs something else.
What?
Something. Something, like a great defense. See Pittsburgh or Baltimore. Something, like a great offense. See Indianapolis and Peyton Manning. Something, like great players and that brings us back to Kurt Warner.
Now this is not a knock on Kurt Warner, but just how well would he have fared with Donovan’s list of great teammates or vice versa.
On Warner’s side of the ledger: Larry Fitzgerald, Isaac Bruce, Anquan Boldin, Torry Holt, Marshall Faulk, Tiki Barber, Amani Toomer, Jeremy Shockey, Az-Zahir Hakim.
On McNabb’s: Brian Westbrook and Terrell Owens. They are the only two weapons McNabb has had that would qualify for Warner’s list of elite teammates.
There is always a chicken-and-egg relationship between quarterbacks and their receivers, but there can be no disputing that Warner has played with more blue-chip offensive skill players during his career than McNabb has. It isn’t even close.
Donovan McNabb with receivers
Finally, this year Donovan McNabb finds himself with receivers that he can trust, receivers that he can just throw the ball up in tight spots and they will go up and battle for the ball and, more times than not, Read more
Donovan McNabb leads Eagles victory

It was mano a mano going into the 4th quarter. May the best quarterback win.
Donovan made the plays and Eli Manning did not.
Donovan ran for one touchdown and passed for another during the game.
Entering the 4th quarter the score was a very odd 13 - 11. Don’t even ask me to explain that one. Even the ending score was a NFL 1st with the score of 23 - 11. Weird.
It is not that McNabb set the world on fire, because he didn’t. He threw for only 217 yards on 22 - 40 passing, but he made the plays he had to make including a 1 yard play action to Brent Celek for a TD to start out the 4th.
Meanwhile, Eli Manning appeared bothered by the swirling winds and only threw for 169 yards.
The Eagles will play the Cardinals for the Conference Championship just like, just like, uhh, just like nobody predicted at the beginning of the season.

DeSean Jackson makes Squibster kiss sister

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
How many of you got stung out there by bonehead DeSean Jackson dropping the football before crossing the goal line?
Well, your intrepid author did.
Here is the scenario. Leading by 5 points going into the Monday night Philadelphia Dallas game, my last player was quarterback Donovan McNabb. My opponent had Terrell Owens. Perfect, did not have to root for the Cowboys.
Then DeSean Jackson dropped that ball, Donovan did not get credit for a touchdown pass and the Fantasy Football points that go with it. Donovan ended up with 15 points and Terrell Owens had 20 points a la a couple of touchdown passes from Tony Romo.
We ended up in a tie.
Ouch, had to kiss my sister. How does a QB put up 37 points and only throw 1 touchdown anyway?
And this after Eddie Royal had such a great day for my team and the Broncos. Turns out my backup quarterback is Jay Cutler and he had 31 points.

Only with McNabb can Eagles fly

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Ok, you are an Eagles fan. You look around and see the Washington Redskins. Hmm, they have a new coach in Jim Zorn and a pretty good QB and practically every player returning from a team that went to the playoffs in 2 out of the last 3 years. We can beat them, maybe.
Then you look at the Giants and you see Eli Manning at QB and a defensive line without Strahan. Hey, we can beat them.
Then you see the Cowboys and their 13 - 3 record and the slew of All Pros like Terrell Owens and Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson, hey wait a minute, Jessica was not All Pro. Anyway, they are loaded, but they never seem to win a playoff game. Hey, we can beat them.
After all we have Donovan McNabb and when he is healthy…
And that, my friends, is the big question - When he is healthy?
A variety of injuries limited McNabb, 31, to nine games, 10 games and then 14 games in the ensuing years. Now he’s in the final year of his contract, and in 2007 the Eagles drafted former University of Houston standout Kevin Kolb in the second round.
This year the Eagles think it is Donovan McNabb’s year. Brian Westbrook had this to say:
“I think this season,” he said, “you’re going to see the real deal.”
Likewise wide receiver Hank Baskett and tight end L.J. Smith have opined that McNabb looks like “the Donovan of old.”
Donovan has had some great years and is a roll the dice fantasy football quarterback, but you have to wonder if the Eagles do not win this year, then will McNabb be gone?
You also have to wonder how they do that in the toughest conference in the NFC?
Good Luck, Donovan.

Will Eagles be the worst to firsters?

Will Donovan McNabb lead the Eagles to glory or hand his head?

Image details: Buffalo Bills v Philadelphia Eagles served by picapp.com
Worst to firsters?
Yeah, you know, the teams that go from not being very good to being very good.
Since realignment in 2002, at least one team a season has jumped from last place to division winner from one year to the next — the 2003 Chiefs, the 2004 Falcons and Chargers, the 2005 Bears and Buccaneers, the 2006 Saints and the 2007 Buccaneers.
With offseason roster shuffling mostly finished around the league, which last place teams stand the best chance of making the leap and keeping the trend alive in 2008?
Ok, here is the breakdown on the Eagles.
Philadelphia Eagles
Division: NFC East.
•Last season: 8-8 (2-4 division).
•Reasons for optimism: In Andy Reid’s nine seasons as their coach the Eagles have never missed the playoffs in consecutive seasons. QB Donovan McNabb should be better two years removed from his serious knee injury. CB Asante Samuel could help bolster a defense that lacked big plays.
•Reasons for doubt: The defense’s 19 takeaways were the fewest in the NFL and while a young defensive front has a lot of talent, it’s largely unproven. CB Lito Sheppard’s been pushing for a trade and could be a distraction. The weapons are lacking at wide receiver.
Donovan McNabb returning from injury? Isn’t that kind of like an annual ritual? Wouldn’t it be better for the Philadelphia Eagles if McNabb completed a season?

Asante Samuel signs with the Eagles
March 1, 2008 by James Edwards

NFL Football at its best. NFL Football at its craziest.
Asante had several trips lined up to visit different NFL teams. This kind of scared the Eagles. So, 57 million dollars with 20 million guaranteed later, Asante is an Eagle.
The Eagles were 5 and 3 in the second half of the season, losing to Super Bowl bound New England by 3, playoff bound Seattle by 4, and Super Bowl Champion New York by 3. They are hoping the Asante can make the difference in those big games in the future.
Samuel tied Denver’s Champ Bailey for the NFL lead with 10 interceptions in 2006 and returned two more picks for touchdowns in the postseason against the Jets and Colts. His 12 total interceptions in the 2006 regular season and playoffs were the highest combined single-season total in Patriots history.
Samuel kept New England’s perfect 2007 regular season alive in late November against the Eagles. He returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown and had a second pick off A.J. Feeley that halted a late Philadelphia drive in New England’s 31-28 victory. source
The Eagles were smart to cough up the big dough immediately as most free agents tend to sign with the last team they visit. Philly did not want Asante to have any more visits. Asante Samuel plays at a very high level.
Samuel, an All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection this past season, knows something about making timely picks. Samuel, who won two Super Bowl rings, has 22 career interceptions in 75 games.
“We regarded Asante as the No. 1 available free agent in the NFL,” Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said.
No one thinks that Asante alone will take the Eagles to the Super Bowl, but maybe he can be the difference that will take an already great team to the Super Bowl. Your intrepid author already discussed how a healthy Donovan McNabb can take them close, now Asante is another important piece to the puzzle.

Donovan McNabb will stay an Eagle

If just does not seem like Eagle football, until someone is asking where Donovan McNabb will be playing football.
Other NFL teams that have made inquiries with the Eagles about the availability of Donavan are hearing he will remain an Eagle.
This is a huge surprise to many.
With the drafting of Kevin Kolb last year it appeared that the oft injured Donovan was headed out the door.
The Eagles are saying otherwise.
The Record
The next speculation is one about Donovan himself. Do you believe he can get the job done? Every year it seems to be something or other that prevents Donovan from having an awesome year ending in playoff victories. At least that is the way we all want to remember it. The truth is something else.
Each year there’s another subject to debate despite what McNabb has done for the Eagles. And what he’s done is take them to four consecutive conference championship games, one Super Bowl and five division titles the past seven years. source
