Grant Hinkle is Lucky; Home Game Tomorrow

Last night I watched Grant Hinkle take home the 2008 WSOP $1,500 No-Limit event.  He won on a push with 10-4 against James Akenhead’s legitimate AK.  The flop and turn came out 10-10-4-10!  Akenhead was crushed and Hinkle took home an elusive WSOP bracelet.  This really wasn’t right.  I mean if you’re Akenhead, you play right, you get yourself in a dominate position heads up at a prestigious world class event and some goofy guy raises you, then pushes all-in with 10-4 and catches his miracle cards.
Of course Hinkle’s mom was in the audience and just thought he was some …read more

Bodog Taking Bets on WSOP Final Table

Bodog.com has now released their odds for the 2008 WSOP Main Event final table, allowing interested parties to place bets on who they think will take the crown.
Since all the players are relative unknowns, the odds are based primarily on chip counts. Seems like it would be a fun bet to put some money on the midsize stacks, as seeing the chip leader win is less likely than the numbers would warrant.
Still, it’s basically a crapshoot, but could make it more fun to watch for sure.
I’ll do it.

2008 WSOP Broadcasts Begin Tonight

If you’re ready for them to stop broadcasting the 2007 Jerry Yang donkshow over and over on repeat, well, the first load of cargo arrives tonight.
They’re kicking off with the Pot Limit Hold Em championship event, featuring some nice pros including Kathy Liebert, Nenad Medic, Mike Sexton and Patrik Antonius, among others.
Look for sassy commentary on these events here at All Poker Addicts, as well as more coming info as it arrives.
In the meantime, here’s Daniel Negreanu on his 4th bracelet win, from this year.

Dude, lose the hat. Leave the Eminem style to the Grinder. (please)

Dario Minieri Wins a Bracelet?

Dario Minieri, also know as the extra from Lord of the Rings who made waves in the WSOP broadcasts last year for his reckless play and his ridiculous scarf, also known as the first guy to cash in PokerStars players points for a Porsche w/o being old enough to drive one, now turned his hyper-aggressive style into a 2008 WSOP bracelet.
Playing $2500 buy in no limit hold em 6 handed, Minieri took down just over half a million, along with some further validation that his peculiar and seemingly ridiculously aggressive style has at least some method behind the madness.
Hopefully this …read more

Pros Killing the 2008 WSOP So Far

If the current results are any kind of indicator, it looks like 2008 could be the year a pro finally sneaks the World Series of Poker main event bracelet back from the long line of amateurs and no names that have conquered the majority of this decade.
As of the past week or so, we’ve seen bracelets taken down in events by
Daniel Negreanu in $2,000 buy in No Limit Hold em.
Mike Matusow in $5,000 buy in Lowball (featuring one of the sickest final tables in recent memory including Tony G, David Benyamine, Erick Lindgren, Jefferey Lisandro, Barry Greenstein and Tom Schneider)

2008 World Series of Poker

Registration is now open for the 2008 World Series of Poker, which you can access through their website.
Still tempted to make it out there but I still don’t think this is the year. I think I’m going to wait another 5-10 years from now when people think about poker like they think about pet rocks or something. I’m a little too claustrophobic for that whole scene.
Hopefully this year is a little more interesting than last, though. I don’t think there could have been a more boring main event broadcast.
Not to mention, hmm, Jerry Yang, who’s probably gone on to do …read more

2008 World Series of Poker Schedule

The schedule for the 2008 World Series of Poker has now been announced. This year they have the same number of tournaments (55) but they’ve switched up the kind of style of several of them so there’s more variety. There are more low buy in hold em events, a new heads up tournament (which should be awesome), and a couple other slight differences. See the scheduled below.
I’d really like to try to make it out this year, but probably won’t unless I get lucky with some funds between now and then. We shall see.
