Roger Federer Advances to Semifinals at Qatar Open

Yesterday (January 8) was a good day for tennis champ Roger Federer, but not so much for top-ranked Rafael Nadal at the Qatar Open in Doha.
Nadal was eliminated yesterday after being defeated by Gael Monfils of France 6-4, 6-4. Federer defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).
Next, Federer will face Andy Murray and Monfils will play Andy Roddick in the semifinals.

Murray Defeats Nadal at the Capitala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi

Britain’s Andy Murray has defeated Spanish top-seeded player Rafael Nadal at the Capitala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi on January 3, 2009. Murray took the first set 6-4, Nadal took the second set 7-5. Murray ended the match by taking the last set 7-6.
Six of the top 10 world players which included Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Nikolay Davydenko, Andy Murray, Andy Roddick and James Blake all competed in the 3 day elimination event for a prize of $250,000.
Andy Murray came out on top to win the event. What a great way to start the new year!

Roger Federrer Cuts Back 2009 Clay Court Schedule

Roger Federrer has cut back his 2009 clay court schedule. He will only play 2 clay court tournaments before the French Open, which is the only Grand Slam tournament he has never won. He lost the 2008 French Open to Rafael Nadal.
This year, Federrer played 4 clay court tournaments ahead of the French Open, which included: Estoril, Portugal; Monte Carlo; Rome; and Hamburg, Germany.
In 2009 Federrer will play on a clay court, his least favorite surface, in Rome and Madrid and will then head to Paris on May 24th. Federrer said that he is "really pleased with the season …read more
