Jason Terry Wins Sixth Man of the Year

Jason Terry of the Dallas Mavericks won the 2009 NBA Sixth Man of the Year award. The 31-year-old guard out of Arizona averaged 19.6 points, 3.4 assists and 2.4 rebounds in 33.7 minutes per game. He played in 74 out of the 82 games and came off the bench in 63 of those contests.
Currently, Terry and the Mavs are playing the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the 2009 NBA playoffs. The Mavs are up 2-1 against the Spurs and the fourth game between the two Texas teams is on Saturday.

Derrick Rose Wins NBA Rookie of the Year

For the 2009 NBA Rookie of the Year award, there wasn’t much suspense. Derrick Rose, the star rookie for the Chicago Bulls and the number one pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, officially was named the winner on Wednesday.
In the season, Rose averaged 16.8 points and 6.3 assists in 37 minutes per game. He shot 47.5% from the field and 78.8% at the free throw line. He, also was able to stay healthy, playing in 81 of the team’s 82 games.
