I saw Connie Bensen talking about getting a beta issue fixed on Twitter and thought, wait, I love ACDSee’s software, I need to be trying these betas! I sent my @conniebensen tweet and got the link to ACDSee Photo Editor 5 Beta from her in reply.
I have it downloaded, but haven’t installed it yet. Now that isn’t all. It seems that there will be a new beta of ACDSee Pro 2 soon. That I really can’t wait to try!

Connie is going to be in Victoria later in April and we hope to have some kind of geektogether (maybe a nice photowalk or tutorial session, or both!).

Until then I have software to try and photos to manage.

Since Web Community Forum in December I’ve been using, and loving, ACDSee Pro2 to import, manage, and edit my images. Connie Bensen, ACDSee’ uber community manager got a bunch of us hooked on it in December and she got Lee Hopkins hooked on it as well it appears.
So, why. Why is this app so good when everyone raves about Adobe Lightroom? It isn’t the just the price (ACDSee Pro2 is much more affordable, though I did get an NFR license), it’s because this app gives me just the basics when I need it and the details when I need [...]
Post from: EveryJoe

Since Web Community Forum in December I’ve been using, and loving, ACDSee Pro2 to import, manage, and edit my images. Connie Bensen, ACDSee’ uber community manager got a bunch of us hooked on it in December and she got Lee Hopkins hooked on it as well it appears.

So, why. Why is this app so good when everyone raves about Adobe Lightroom? It isn’t the just the price (ACDSee Pro2 is much more affordable, though I did get an NFR license), it’s because this app gives me just the basics when I need it and the details when I need them.

Most of the time I don’t do too much editing with my pictures, but recently I’ve been playing with cropping and other retouching (fixing colour in RAW images. I love how I can just crop to common print sizes and the auto colour fixing tools are, well, just astounding.

For some examples of my recent cropping and colour work, you can see my recent post on my personal blog now for the fun stuff I have a few pictures I’ve tweaked:

It was really easy to achieve these effects. You have probably noticed that all these images are hosted on Flickr. One of the royal pains in the, well you know, is getting pictures up to Flickr. Flickr’s own download tool has some great features, but is completely unreliable. ACDSee has a really good uploader. It’s not perfect, but I can rely on it to get the pictures up there. I would like it if I could set the privacy on the pictures, but I can set tags, pick and create sets, and edit titles and tags on individual pictures.

I’m surprised how often people don’t use decent photo software. If you’re using Windows, give it a try. There is a 21-day trial on the software so there isn’t anything to lose.

For more info you can check out the main ACDSee Photo Software site, the ACDSee blog and the very active ACDSee user forums.
