Saving Gas on Long Trips

One thing I try to impress upon people here is that you don’t have to totally change your life to make changes that count. You can still drive to work. You can still travel if you want. It’s easier to save more emissions if you don’t, but you can be a “greener” driver without cutting the fun or privacy out of your life.

This author kicked butt at describing good ways of improving fuel efficiency without being a danger. Sometimes I think people make too much out of the “trick” aspect though … many hypermiling techniques are plain old common sense tips for saving gas.

I cringed when I saw the Kelly Blue Book’s call on the ten coolest cars under $18,000. To call the Pontiac Vibe “hot” – or anything close to it – is sheer mockery. Inexpensive and fun usually translates to small though, which is fine for us as small usually means “better on gas.” Or, at least, it used to. My Geo Metro got around 35 mpg (or at least, that’s what I tell myself 14 years in the future). So what are the new “cool” cars under $18K and how do they ring in on the environmental front?
