Top 10 best-selling Atari 2600 games of all time

You’d be amazed, especially if you don’t already know. Here’s the list of Best-Selling Atari 2600 video games of all time:
Topping the list is Pac-Man with a whopping seven million cartridges sold, followed by Pitfall! with four million and Missile Command with 2.5 million.
Other Atari 2600 games that made it to the million copies-sold list are Demon Attack with two million, (BIG GASP!) E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial with 1.5 million, and Adventure, Atlantis, Cosmic Ark, Kaboom!, Megamania, River Raid, and Space Invaders with one million copies each.
Yeah, it’s weird seeing E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial up there with certified Atari 2600 hits like …read more

Prince of Persia – Flash Sands of Time

Earlier today I stumbled upon this viral marketing flash game for Ubisoft’s 2003 masterpiece “Prince of Persia – The Sands of Time“.
Viral ads are usually fun for all of 30 seconds, but this one is different. It’s a mini-game in which you must guide our hero to stop the evil Vizier from releasing the Sands of Time.
The best thing, however, is that the game takes the form of the original Prince of Persia game!
There’s an eight minute time limit in which to accomplish your task, so you’d better haul some ass if you’re to succeed.
So you see, this viral ad …read more

Retro game print ads

They don’t make them like this anymore…
I’m amazed at how text-heavy some of them are… It’s not like now where you get a pretty picture that will never be in the game, they were far more representative of the product that was being sold… And you could read a bunch of marketing flimflam too!
Check out more adverts at Toy Adz.

“Whoa, Nice Graphics…”

Back when “rad” was a word, everyone’s favorite asshats Cory & Brandon struck again…

Games commercials were never like this… Were they?
Listen Cory & Brandon… If you’re going to rap about The Legend of Zelda, follow James Kochalka’s lead:
Well The Legend of Zelda, It is the best,
Those Moblins put you to the test.
Open up a treasure chest.
And you have to save the Princess.
Your ass must be crazy…
And yes, your parents probably do hook it the funk up for you… You’re too busy being a textbook geek and a terrible actor to do it yourselves…
Dear readers… Thousands of words will no doubt …read more

What’s it like to play the NES?

Sometimes I secretly wish my house would blow up almost every time I hear the Mario theme… Let’s hope that Cory and Brandon’s frozen, whithered cadavers are yet to re-enter our atmosphere… Stupid hair… I’ve got a Zapper you fool, they’re not that awesome!
Although the noise that the trigger makes as it springs back brings back fond memories… But let’s see you use that thing until the score counter on Duck Hunt goes all the way back to six zeros…
Idiots… Curse you Cory, and curse you Brandon…

Sonikku!

Sonikku!

I just spotted these somewhat weird Sonic Adventure commercials on Digg.
We catch up with our intrepid hero and his friends (represented with plush toys which I’m sure were trying to be sold at the same time) aboard a plane. Sonic jumps out of the plane and, get this, impales his head upon a spear.
Really.
The other one is just as strange. The shocking sights you are about to see may astound you. If you’re squeamish you might not want to watch. Especially if you don’t like seeing toy hedgehogs being eaten by a crocodile. It’s ok. I looked away too.

Get into the world of Nintendo

You’ve got to check this out.
Bill from Progressive Boink has posted a hilarious article featuring an old Nintendo catalogue from the 1990. Do yourself a favor and go and read it.
…These little conversation starters are filled with lithium batteries and a terrible resolve. Break them out at your next get-together and watch the party fire up like the final spark of life in a dying man’s eyes.

You’ll understand why I’m having a hard time writing about it once you do. Make sure you read all the captions, you’ll be missing out if you skim it. I particularly enjoyed the caption …read more
