Which Is Better Time Capsule or AEBS with an External Hard Drive?

There’s a discussion going on in the local Mac Users Group I belong to. Several members are discussing which is better to get, a Time Capsule or an Airport Extreme Base Station. With the current software update of the AEBS enabling it to do wireless backups when an external drive is plugged in, this is also looking to be a good solution for your wireless backup needs.

Time Capsule Functionality in Airport Extreme Base Station

Apple released updates for Time Machine and Aiport a few days ago and according to Mac Rumors some of its readers are writing in to say that you can now backup wirelessly to an Airport Extreme Base Station with an external USB drive attached.
Now this is certainly a good thing. An Airport Extreme with Gigabit Ethernet costs $179. You can buy a external drive such as a Lacie 500gb external drive for $115 at Comp USA. That totals to $294. iLounge has posted their take on the new AirPort Extreme. They’ve posted good experience with the AirPort Extreme but there have been other people who aren’t so lucky. A friend of mine had to try several times to make his HDDs work with the AirPort Extreme. His printer also drops when left idle for awhile. Hey, it’s a Rev A. what do you expect?
