Alex Smith Replaces Shaun Hill

To begin the season, the San Francisco 49ers were a Brett Favre miracle away from being 4-0. At halftime of their Week 7 game against the Houston Texans, the 49ers season seemed to have completely derailed. However, after head coach Mike Singletary swapped quarterback Shaun Hill for Alex Smith, the Niners finally had some life.
Trailing 21-0 at the half, Smith led San Francisco on a furious rally. Although the Texans were able to hold on for a 24-21 victory, the Niners now have a full-blown quarterback controversy after Smith played so well.

Niners’ QB – Shaun Hill or Alex Smith?

Who will start at quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers in the 2009 football season — Shaun Hill or Alex Smith? According to most reports, the two quarterbacks have been equal so far in the first two weeks of training camp. However, heading into the Niners’ first preseason game, Hill will get the start.
Head coach Mike Singletary says that Hill getting the starting nod isn’t an indication of who is ahead. The Niners begin preseason against the Denver Broncos on Friday.

Tight End Alex Smith Traded to the Patriots

The New England Patriots always seem to value having depth at tight end. On Thursday, they completed a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for tight end Alex Smith. In return, the Bucs received a draft pick in 2010 NFL Draft.
Smith is a 24-year-old out of Stanford who has shown good potential at various points in his career. The best season of his four-year career was his rookie campaign. In 16 games in 2005, he had 41 receptions for 367 yards and two touchdowns.

If You Thought Eli Manning Looked Like a Putz While He Was Sober . . .

The unflattering snaps of a pair of party boy QBs–Matt Leinart of the Arizona Cardinals and Alex Smith of the San Francisco 49ers–is a gift from the Blog Deities so transparent we wonder what they (the Deities, that is) expect in return.  (It’s also a gift from faithful reader Caesar–thanks!).
