Scenes from the Bird’s Nest – August 23

The track and field events of the XXIX Olympiad concluded on Saturday. Here are the results:

The American women took the Gold Medal in the women’s 4×400m relay, with anchor Sanya Richards passing Russian, Anastasia Kapachinskaya in the final meters. The Russian women took the Silver Medal and the Jamaican team earned the Bronze. In addition to Richards, the US team included Allyson Felix, Monique Henderson, and Mary Weinberg.

Nancy Langat of Kenya took the Gold Medal in the women’s 1500m event, followed by Iryna Lishchynskia and Nataliya Tobias of Ukraine for the Silver and Bronze Medals, respectively. American Shannon Rowbury finished …read more

Scenes from the Bird’s Nest – August 21

It was a crazy day at the Bird’s Nest on Thursday. Both the United States mens and womens 4×100m relay teams dropped their batons in the qualifying heats and were disqualified from the events. In addition, there were also a lot a positive things happening at the “Nest.” Here are the highlights:

Andrey Moiseev of Russia won the Gold Medal in the men’s modern pentathlon competition. That’s the five-event content, which includes epee fencing, pistol shooting, a 200m freestyle swim, show jumping, and a 3km cross-country run. The event was added to the Olympics in 1912. Allyson Felix Qualifies for Women’s 200m

Thirty-one-year-old California girl, Allyson Felix easily won the women’s 200m event at the US Track and Field Qualifying Meet in Eugene, Oregon on Sunday, securing her a spot on the US Olympic Team. Felix is the reigning world champion in this event and won the Silver Medal in Athens.
Joining her in Beijing will be second place finisher, Muna Lee, who won the 100m event earlier in the week, and third place finisher, Marshevet Hooker.
